o family is supported on a pair of upraised hands, symbolizing our objective of helping people to help themselves, by providing the necessary skills, knowledge and tools so that they can take control of their own futures, and do so in a sustainable manner. We do not want to 'hand-out' to people, but rather to empower them.
The tree frog, morpho butterfly, orchid and jaguar in the four corners of the logo are illustrative of the biological diversity and beauty of the Amazon. For this beauty and diversity to be preserved, we must help the people of the Amazon to conserve and sustainably use their own environment, and we must also examine our own lives to see how our lifestyles and actions affect the global environment around us. All life and habitats are interconnected, and the future of the Amazon is important to us all.
Rainforests act as a planetary thermostat by regulating and moderating temperatures and weather patterns. By absorbing carbon and sequestering CO2, rainforest help slow global climate change.
Every day, an area of rainforest equivalent to 86,400 football fields is chopped down worldwide. The Peruvian rainforest has largely escaped this wide-scale destruction. Help us to keep it that way!
The Project Amazonas forest reserves are staffed by rotating forest wardens from adjacent communities. These wardens perform the vital tasks of keeping trails open, facilities well-maintained, and above all, protecting against illegal logging and hunting. Protect the forest and all its inhabitants—animal and human—by funding a forest warden position for a year, or by making a continuing contribution by funding a forest warden for the same month every year at Madre Selva, Sabalillo, Paucarillo, Moyobomba, or Santa Cruz.
Why Will Bryan contributes to Project Amazonas:
"I have invested thousands of dollars and a year of work in my documentary film about Project Amazonas and their critical mission in the Peruvian rainforest. It's been a life-changing experience, I am very proud of my contribution."
