About Progression Speech Therapy “Evan takes a “whole child” approach while building a relationship based on trust and partnership – acting as both a mentor and ally. He is able to relate to not only the clinical aspects of speech therapy, but more importantly, the social and emotional impact that stuttering can have on a child, teen, or young adult. He focusses on real-world applications – things that truly matter to a person who stutters, like ordering off a menu, making phone calls, and initiating spontaneous conversation. Our goal is to keep our child’s conversations moving forward by increasing fluency, minimizing blocking and secondary behaviors, and encouraging him to never, ever back down – because what he has to say is important! Our son may never completely overcome his stutter – and that’s ok. What he has overcome is the burden of guilt, fear, and low self-esteem. He is the first to raise his hand in class, participate in group projects, and has spoken in front of a crowd of nearly a thousand about stuttering and how it has impacted his life.
