PORTADAM, INC., Williamstown

Portadam Overview Established over 35 years ago, Portadam offers its water management solutions to national and international clients. Our engineered, modular system is highly flexible and can be used effectively for temporary cofferdam, flood protection and fluid storage needs. When deployed as a temporary cofferdam, our equipment enables contractors to perform their in-water work in a dry condition. The system is currently available in heights up to 12 ft and individual units can be quickly combined to accommodate varying subsurface elevations and configurations/contours helping to minimize the contractor’s overall rental costs. Portadam has a history of successfully preventing damage from flood waters. The Portadam system can be used to divert floodwaters away from key infrastructure such as emergency response centers, treatment plants, power plants, substations, and switching stations. The flexibility of the equipment enables quick installation on unprepared surfaces and along almost any desired line. Our rental model enables customers to have protection when it’s required without any significant capital outlays. The Portadam system can also be configured for above ground water storage for energy and industrial applications. Portadam water storage systems are commonly installed in the North American Shale regions where its environmentally friendly design enables Oil & Gas Exploration and Production companies to meet DCNR and EPA regulations as well as local Township permitting requirements. Portadam provides significant environmental benefits as compared to in-ground impoundments or traditional frac tanks. Benefits include no need for blasting, limited reclamation after use, decreased land use & disturbance and reduced trucking requirements. Water. Sometimes it’s where you don’t want it. Other times it’s not where you need it. Portadam’s engineered system offers temporary solutions to both problems. Our cofferdam equipment enables contractors to responsibly perform their in-water work in a dry condition. Portadam’s system can also be an integral part of your floodfighting plan – having been validated by the US Army Corps. Additionally, our above-ground water storage systems provide custom sized, large capacity solutions for energy and industrial applications. For over 35 years, the Portadam system has been, and continues to be, recognized as providing one of the most environmentally friendly products whether the application is a temporary cofferdam, flood protection system or water storage solution. The cofferdam application drastically reduces the amount of turbidity in the waterway as it does not penetrate the subsurface or rely on earthen materials to create the cofferdam. A Portadam cofferdam uses a nylon reinforced PVC membrane and a metal frame assembly and all components parts are easily removed from the waterway upon completion of the project; so nothing is left behind. Upon completion of the project, all component parts are returned to a Portadam facility and are washed, repaired and 100% inspected to ensure both product integrity and the removal of all foreign materials prior to shipment to the next job site. This eliminates the concern of cross contamination between job sites and from waterway to waterway. The Company took the same environmentally friendly approach when it introduced an Above Ground Water Storage system to contain fresh water for fracking applications. Portadam’s system does not require blasting and dramatically reduces erosion concerns. The Portadam system has minimal impact on the environment, whether its used as a cofferdam solution, as a flood fighting structure or as a water storage system . In all applications the component parts are fully removed with ease upon project completion. Noise and vibration issues typically created with other water diversion methods are non-existent. The Portadam cofferdam system does not use earthen materials to create the structure —eliminating the risk of cross contamination. In cofferdam applications the system does not penetrate the subsurface and results in no long term issues unlike sheet piling where the bottom pile sections often break and are left behind in the waterway creating permanent faults in the river or streambed. In contrast to a sheet piling cofferdam, which creates significant turbidity during the installation process as it must penetrate the subsurface, the Portadam system creates no turbidity as it is placed on the subsurface. Furthermore, sheet piling requires the use of heavy equipment and hydraulic fluids during the installation process. Any rupture of the hydraulic fluid lines would introduce the fluids directly into the waterway – no such risk is incurred during the installation of the Portadam system. Earthen dams, sandbag dams and home-made contractor methods, which also may be used as cofferdam solutions, create significant turbidity and introduce foreign materials and chemicals into the waterway which are not easily removed upon project completion. When used as an temporary water storage solution, the Portadam system has several environmental advantages —the system does not require blasting, eliminating noise and vibration concerns— and also the size of the disturbed area is minimized. Additionally, it dramatically reduces erosion concerns and enables a definite decrease in truck traffic and associated infrastructure wear and tear. Water. Sometimes it’s where you don’t want it. Other times it’s not where you need it. Portadam’s engineered system offers temporary solutions to both problems.
