In addition to classroom instruction and rehearsal, band students go on band trips. In the last school year, the Wind Ensemble and Jazz Bands went to New York City to compete in a Heritage festival. This year, we are heading to Chicago! The coaching sessions with professional musicians helped students achieve these high awards and is definitely something to be proud of - and financial support of Pine View Band makes this possible! Band Boosters is a group of volunteer band parents that organize fundraising and other events to support the Pine View Band program. They operate under Pine View Band, Inc which is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Finally, Band Boosters operates the Belong program that encourages people to support the Pine View Band through a paid membership. We are currently looking for individuals who want to bring their skills from the business world, arts community or any other trade or skill that can help us help our students and our band have a successful year. Talk it up! As Director of Bands at Pine View School for the Gifted, I invite you to join Belong. What is it? Belong is a group that supports the Pine View Band program through membership and other activities. This program is organized by Pine View Band Boosters. With the help of Belong members and Band Boosters, I am able to provide greater resources to band students as I help them learn the language of music. I know that many of the deepest and most rewarding friendships that I have developed in my life, have their roots in my school band program. My wish is that the same is true for my band students. About 10 percent of the Pine View Student body plays in one of the five Pine View Bands. That amounts to about 200 students each year. There is only one Pine View teacher, Mr Mongillo, for all these students. So how does he get them to be able to perform superbly at school concerts? With a little help from some professional musicians. These accomplished professional coaches provide small group instruction across all ages of students and instruments. The results have been impressive and of unquestionable benefit especially for the younger students who are starting their musical journey in grades 7 and 8. by the school board. The Band Boosters, a collection of band parents have stepped in to help. With your support, they have held various fundraising activities to sponsor musical coaching and other initiatives. Looking ahead, it was felt the long term viability of funding the coaching program would be improved with an endowment fund. The goal is to set aside some of the funds raised each year into an endowment fund that eventually will be able to provide financial assistance to future generations of band students that would benefit from musical coaching. Our fourth Gala evening, now called the 'ENCORE dinner', will be held near the end of the school year. If you would like to be a sponsor or a part of this wonderful event, please contact us. In addition consider attending with your family and friends to support the Pine View Band Program. During the evening, you will be entertained by the highly acclaimed Pine View Jazz Band. We hope that you will be able to join us for a wonderful evening. If affordable, a $15 donation is requested to provide a beginning band method book and supplies. This year, we will be using Sound Innovations Book 1. Additional Help Students wishing additional help with anything musical are welcome in the band room from 8:00-9:00 am, 1:00-2:00 pm and some days after 3:00 pm. If affordable, a $20 donation is requested to help purchase new music and basic supplies. If affordable, a $25 donation is requested to help purchase music and supplies.
