The Board of Medical Advisors is tasked with providing knowledge, insight and advice on the current management and future direction of all aspects of the company, including underwriting, litigation management, risk management and analysis of national trends. The members of the Board of Medical Advisors are a cornerstone of MedMal Direct Insurance Company and represent many clinical specialties throughout the state of Florida. The underwriting and litigation management experts at MedMal Direct often engage in dialogue with the experts on our Board of Medical Advisors, all to the benefit of the policyholder. Dr. Berger has been practicing Anesthesiology and Pain Management in South Florida for twenty years and is regarded as an expert in the area of chronic pain and reflex sympathetic dystrophy. His many accomplishments include being appointed Chairman of the Governing Board and President of the Medical Staff of Pinecrest Rehabilitation Hospital as well as serving as Medical Director for Delray Outpatient Surgery & Laser Center. Currently, Dr. Berger is the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Medical Officer of Pain Management Consultants in Boca Raton as well as Office Surgery Inspector for the Florida Agency for Healthcare Administration (AHCA). Dr. Berger has served as an expert for the U.S. Department of Justice, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the Florida Board of Medicine, and the Department of Health as an expert in the prosecution of cases involving pain management and anesthesiology services. Dr. Berger was also recently appointed, by the Chief Medical Officer of Humana Health Plans, Inc. to Chair the Sub-Committee whose function was to determine on final appeal, whether a provider should remain, or be terminated by the insurance company, based upon the evidence presented at hearing. Dr. Cohen graduated from Swarthmore College before earning his medical degree from the Ohio State University College of Medicine. His surgical training at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, where he served as chief resident, lead to a Fellowship opportunity abroad. After studying at the Gloucestershire Royal Infirmary in England, Dr. Cohen returned to Ohio to complete his Vascular Fellowship at the St. Anthony Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio. Dr. Dietrick completed his undergraduate studies at Xavier University before attending medical school at Wright State University where he was elected into the Medical Honor Society, Alpha Omega Alpha. He completed his internship and surgical residency at Loyola University in Chicago then returned to Ohio to join the faculty at the University of Toledo Medical Center. Dr. Dietrick served as the Chief of Trauma Surgery and Associate Director of the Surgical Training Program. He was a founding partner of Toledo Surgical Specialists, Inc. and served as president until moving to Tampa to help establish a surgical weight loss program at Town & Country Hospital. Dr. Marsland earned a Bachelor of Arts from Providence College before attending the Temple University School of Medicine for his Medical Degree. His subsequent Internship and Residency at Temple University Hospital was followed by an Oncology Fellowship at Tuft’s New England Medical Center and a Hematology Fellowship at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. Dr. Marsland is now double Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology and has more than twenty six years of clinical research experience. He has previously served as the Medical Director of Hospice Collaborative at Pondville Hospital; Chief of Medicine and Chief of Staff at Orange Park Medical Center; President of both the Duval County Unit and Florida Division of the American Cancer Society; and as President and Treasurer of the Florida Society of Clinical Oncology – to name a few. Dr. Oliver has been practicing osteopathic family medicine since 1997. He currently practices in Ocala, Florida and is the founder of American Family Medical, LLC. He is a member of the American Osteopathic Association, American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians, and the Florida Osteopathic Medical Association. Dr. Oliver serves on the governing board of American Health Alliance ACD. In additional to clinical practice, Dr. Oliver conducts clinical research and serves as a medical director for Senior Home Care. He currently serves as the president of the Medical Business Leaders Network and is a member of the Lions Club International. Dr. Oliver devotes much of his time coordinating medical mission teams to various underserved nations. Dr. Nitesh Paryani was born and raised in Jacksonville and is a third-generation radiation oncologist practicing in the city. He graduated as valedictorian from The Bolles School, where he also served as president of his class and chairman of the student-run Honor Committee. He went on to study political theory and graduate with Honors from Princeton University. After graduating, Dr. Paryani took a job as a management consultant working for a large multinational consulting firm in Washington, D.C., focusing on federal and private healthcare payor strategy and business process improvement. He then decided to follow in his family’s footsteps and enrolled in medical school at the University of Florida, where he also served as president of his class and graduated with Honors in Research. Dr. Paryani completed his internship, residency and chief residency in radiation oncology at Mayo Clinic. He also rotated at some of the top cancer centers in the country including Stanford University, Washington University in St. Louis, M.D. Anderson Jacksonville, and the University of Florida Proton Therapy Institute. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Duval County Medical Society, the Board of Governors for the Florida Medical Association, and the Government Relations committee of the American Society for Radiation Oncology. He also serves as a Delegate to the American Medical Association for the state of Florida.
