Peace River Wildlife Center, Inc. is a dedicated non-profit organization committed to the rehabilitation of injured, orphaned, or ill wildlife. Established on May 2, 1985, the center operates out of its location at 3400 Ponce De Leon Parkway, Punta Gorda, FL. This esteemed institution is recognized as a member of several prominent associations including the Florida Wildlife Rehabilitation Association (FWRA), the National Wildlife Rehabilitation Association (NWRA), and the International Wildlife Rehabilitation Council (IWRC). The organization is legally licensed and regulated by agencies such as the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FL FWC). Visitors are welcomed at Peace River Wildlife Center from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily, where they have the opportunity to explore its gift shop and learn about ongoing conservation efforts. Operational hours for the center extend from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. every day, ensuring that affected wildlife receives prompt care. The center’s mission is substantially supported through grants, community donations, recycling initiatives, and gift shop revenue. A significant portion of its activities are carried out by volunteers who play vital roles in rehabilitation efforts. According to estimates, Peace River Wildlife Center attracts around 100,000 visitors annually to experience firsthand the impact and scope of their work. Over the years, the center has successfully handled various wildlife incidents, such as admitting a bald eagle that suffered burns from an electrical discharge in January 2018. In addition to clinical treatment, the center also engages with its audience through celebrations like commemorating Orion the barred owl's first birthday on February 14th. Under the leadership of officers and directors including Glynn Jay, Tricia Lapointe (Secretary), and John Benande, Peace River Wildlife Center continues to make significant contributions to wildlife conservation.
