While everyone who invests in the market expects to receive reasonable returns, historically that has not been the case. Prior to the Recession of 2008, only institutional investors, banks, large corporations, Wall Street firms, and Pension Funds had access to investments throwing off decent returns. If you could find someone offering a great investment strategy, your money had to pass through many middlemen including investment brokers, advisors and fund managers all of who took on a hefty fee before your hard-earned dollars reached the actual investment, thus reducing your net capital invested. Up until recently private issuers of securities were not allowed to make a public solicitation for investors under the federal and state securities laws, most of which were authored in the 1930’s and 1940’s. These laws acted as a barrier to most privately owned firms attempting to access the private investor markets. The Jumpstart Our Business Startups Act or JOBS Act, was passed in April 2012 and is intended to encourage funding of United States small businesses by easing various securities regulations. Title II of the JOBS Act went into effect on September 23, 2013 which changed old securities legislation to allow the public solicitation of “Accredited Investors”. Title III of the JOBS Act is still pending and when put into effect will allow for the public solicitation of any investor whether accredited or not. With old school investment strategies offered by Wall Street firms, your money was pooled with thousands of others, and placed into dozens or hundreds of “mystery” stocks. You were kept in the dark about exactly what you own. These past dealings did not allow you to screen the strategies held by the Fund or the Investment Sponsor and trying to track your performance was difficult at best. The Strategy Advisory Oversight Team will meet with the Chief Executive Officer of Palm Financial Management, LLC, on a Quarterly basis for detailed discussions of all issues that affect that strategy.
