Our vision is to provide the structures necessary to redeem, rescue, and restore those living in crisis due to life controlling behaviors. We see first-hand that lives are at stake and the time is now! Pastors Nick and Dorothy Mounts are the founders of Overlook Ministries. The couple was called into full-time street ministry in 1993 in Dayton, Ohio, where they were commissioned and ordained by Dr. Dean R. Lundsford. Offering support to those whom society, but not God, has given up on, they provide spiritual parenting, a spiritual family, and guidance to those who have nowhere to turn. Since 1998 they have been faithfully serving Brevard County. With the help of the Overlook Ministries Board, the support of a caring community, congregation partnerships and private individual partners, and to the glory of God- their ministry mission is expanding. The purpose of Overlook Ministries is to deliver the transforming power of the Word of God to those people who the world often does not see, the overlooked; those who are not able to give back at this time in their life. With God’s help, Overlook Ministries strives to bring them to a place where they are equipped to live a balanced, productive life. We minister effectively to the homeless and those suffering life-controlling behaviors. This takes more than a “quick fix” approach, or a hand-out. We promote spiritual and emotional balance. This requires a unique blend of patience and tough love delivered in a consistent, stable environment. We call this approach, ‘direction with affection’. We strive to provide a non-threatening environment to support learning, personal growth, and personal responsibility to those who need help. We strive to provide a model reflecting the life of Jesus. A few testimonies of those whom Overlook Ministries has helped to find God. Through the Word of God, these men and women have overcome life-controlling behaviors, and now they strive to help others do the same. Phil was a broken man we met on the streets of Cocoa. Just released from prison—but still locked up in his heart—he was living a life of bondage that was bad … perhaps worse than his life in prison. He came to one of our Overlook on the Streets meetings. He sat with a sad, empty face as we shared the Word of God … and the Lord spoke to him. “He came to heal the broken-hearted.” Phil received the Word personally and cried out to the Lord for help. Before then, Phil had felt that there was no hope for him and was planning to end his life. But that day, God touched his life and turned it right side up—and from there, God cleaned his soul and healed it from the inside out. “I love Jesus and I love Overlook Ministries! After 42 years of daily drinking and pot smoking, I finally surrendered my life to God in 2004. While attending East Coast Christian Center, I learned about Overlook Ministries and volunteered to bring clothes and toiletries to the Saturday meeting at the Cocoa Library. Since then, they have become my family. Pastors Nick and Dorothy are my mentors, best friends and immediate family. My involvement with Overlook has helped me stay sober and build my relationship with Jesus. My dream is to have a permanent place for our men where they can learn to be functional through Jesus.” Michael Ross is the ex-leader of the Bad Boys street gang in Cocoa, Florida in Brevard County. Michael was a dead man walking—until the spirit of God set him free. We met him on the streets of Cocoa, where the enemy had used him for years to destroy—not just the city, but even worse—the men and women who he controlled with the drugs he sold. Now, as a part of Overlook Ministries and with the help of Jesus and His powerful Word, Michael wants to help rebuild and restore what he once lived to tear down.
