In April, 2013 at age 55 I had double knee replacements. Within weeks after surgery, I started experiencing systemic pain and weakness. I could not lift a half gallon of milk. My research lead me in the direction of a metal allergy which my Original Surgeon dismissed adamantly. I saw a Rheumatologist who prescribed various medications including Methotrexate and no medicine took away the pain. Within months after surgery I needed help dressing myself, turning over in bed and getting out of bed along with other daily routines. After months of increasing Systemic pain, weakness, and fatigue I was given the LTT (Blood Test) by an Orthopedic Surgeon I went for a second opinion. My blood was sent overnight to Orthopedic Analysis in Chicago, Illinois for processing. The results were upsetting. I was allergic to Titanium, Nickel and Cobalt all the metals in my knee replacements. Luckily, a friend referred me to the Hospital for Special Surgery in NYC. My left knee revision took place in January, 2014 and right knee revision was done in May, 2014. By July, 2014 my symptoms started to dissipate. Within a few months after my last revision surgery, my systemic pain and fatigue disappeared and I was able to take care of myself and I continue to do so today. If the LTT from Orthopedic Analysis was given to me prior to my Original Surgery I could have avoid 2 additional surgeries, added cost, and horrible side effects. I feel all Surgeons should have a metal allergy discussion with their patients before any metal device is placed in the body, and recommend or require taking the LTT by Orthopedic Analysis to avoid the severe life changing effects myself and many others have suffered." "Dear Orthopedic Analysis, You probably heard this story many times over, but it bares repeating: I started to experience pain from my knee replacement and returned to my surgeon 4 or 5 times to check things out. After x-ray and MRI, he said, "everything is perfect," spanning a 4 year period of worsening symptoms and pain. In fact my condition was so "perfect" that I degressed from a cane to crutches to a walker to a wheel chair. I sought out the advice of 4 other Surgeons and received one misdiagnosis and treatment plan (often harmful) after another, including a suggestion for back surgery. Desperate as my debilitation increased, I sought out yet another Orthopedic Surgeon, who in 3 minutes suspected I as allergic to my knee replacement. I had never heard of such a thing and didn't even know that was a possibility. She ordered your Orthopedic Analysis Testing Kit. My blood sample was taken and 10 days later we had our answer, after 4 years - 21.7 rating of very high reactivity to nickel. When the surgeon saw that, we knew I needed Revisioning Surgery immediately. That was done. Thank you for the wonderful work and service that you offer. Your staff answered my questions whenever I called, were courteous, knowledgeable and always helpful. I have heard of patients who go decades without a solution to their metal toxicity problems and all the horrors that entails. I am deeply grateful to your lab, which is the only one my Surgeon uses, and I can see why. THANK YOU! “Thanks to your test results, I learned I was allergic to nickel. After 2 years of post-TKR pain & other systemic & dermatologic symptoms, I had my metal knee replaced with a hypoallergenic knee. 9 months later I am doing well. Thank you for what you do! “
