Chinese Medicine transcends the common health paradigm of using prescription drugs to treat symptoms rather then people. Chinese Medicine focuses on restoring health by considering the totality of an person and all of their symptoms. Acupuncture, herbs, and other modalities are the used to balance the person and restore harmony, rather the simply treating individual symptoms. She was introduced to Oriental Medicine through a good friend that had been helped through acupuncture and herbal medicine. Western medicine had not helped him, but an intensive course of acupuncture and herbs had allowed him to resume his martial arts practice. Lammi then moved back to Florida to go back to school and start her journey through the world of Oriental Medicine. Always interested in herbal medicine, she was excited to learn about the complex herbal formulas and the treatment principles behind them. Even more exciting was the effectiveness of the medicine. In 2007, she graduated cum laude from the Florida College of Integrated Medicine. After graduating, she worked in a multi-disciplinary clinic that specialized in rehabilitative therapies, including chiropractic, massage therapy, and physical therapy. She became familiar with the strengths and weaknesses of the different modalities, and how integrating acupuncture into the care can increase the healing process. She helped many car accident victims, as well as patients with degenerative conditions that lead to debilitating pain. Lammi saw more than just pain patients, however. She has helped a number of people with conditions that range from allergies, to anxiety, to auto-immune diseases such as psoriasis, multiple sclerosis, and lupus. Her patients appreciate her empathy, compassion, and cheerful attitude. Another area that Lammi takes great interest in is in the field of reproductive medicine and gynecological disorders. She has experience with both male and female reproductive disorders, and has extensively studied hormone imbalances and gynecological disorders such as PCOS and endometriosis as potential causes of infertility. She also strives to prevent unnecessary hysterectomies that could lead to a greater chance of developing fibromyalgia, as well as premature menopausal symptoms. She draws on her extensive herbal knowledge as well as acupuncture techniques to optimize chances of conception. She is the only acupuncturist in the Central Florida area to be Board Certified as a Fellow of the American Board of Oriental Reproductive Medicine (ABORM). Western Science confirms the effectiveness of acupuncture and how it works. The human body has 2 primary methods of controlling and regulating itself. These are the nervous system and the endocrine system. The brain, spine, and other nerves make up the nervous system, an electrical system similar to the wiring in a home or computer. The endocrine system is a system of chemical signals that uses hormones and neurotransmitters to send signals instead of electrical impulses. Both of these systems give the brain information about how the body is functioning. They also allow the brain to then control the rest of the body and do things like digest food, breathe, and move. During the initial consultation, the practitioner takes a comprehensive history of health and illness. This provides insight into the overall state of the body, not just a particular symptom. The practitioner asks questions, takes your pulse, examines your tongue. Unlike massage therapy Tui-Na is usually done without any oils or liniments (although topical herbs can be helpful for many patients). Tui-Na can even be done over clothing so it is very easy to use in a modern clinical setting. herbs that we sell are American manufactured Dietary therapy is an important part of Chinese Medicine. All of us eat every day, but most of the time we do not think about how this food affects our health. At Orlando Acupuncture we use food therapy for patients who want to have more vibrant health. Food therapy can be an important part of a patient’s treatment plan and healing. It can be something as simple as eating less processed foods, to very specific recommendations such as adding fresh lime juice to water and drinking daily, or eating 6 stalks of celery each day. “You are what you eat”, and “Let thy food be thy medicine”, are famous quotes that highlight the connection between food and health. In popular culture there seems to be a thought that calories is what matters when it comes to food. So the idea is that we are just looking for the right amount of fuel (calories). However, when it comes to healthy eating counting calories is not the whole story. Different foods that we eat are metabolized (broken down) differently. The details of how each meal or snack is metabolized will determine its effect on our health. It is easy to forget that most of our cells, organs, and tissues die and are rebuilt constantly throughout our life. This means that the new cells, organs, and tissues are made from the foods that we eat. At Orlando Acupuncture we can teach you about wholesome, nutritious foods that give your body the raw materials it needs to not only maintain good energy, but to build strong, healthy organs and tissues. In my experience I have seen firsthand how this energy rebalancing, Acupuncture, can eliminate pain instantly, and provide lasting relief from a wide variety of symptoms. By combining Acupuncture with Chinese Herbal Medicine and other facets of Chinese Medicine dramatic results can be obtained.
