Willie was born and raised on Amelia Island. He got his first boat when he was ten (an old wooden rowboat), and he has been boating ever since. He is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy. He sailed in the Navy and in the Merchant Marines for over 27 years. He was master of the United States’s largest oil tanker before he retired, sailing between Kuwait and Rotterdam. He also piloted submarines for the U.S. Navy in Kings Bay, GA and has run tugs on the intracoastal waterway in the local area. Capt. Willie did marine towing and salvage work as the Towboat US tower in the area for a number of years. He held an Unlimited Master’s Oceans license and is now the Dealer for Lowe Boats and Mercury Outboards. He loves helping others buy just the right boat so they can enjoy the water as much as he does. His boating knowledge is extensive, and you can get him telling sea stories if you wish.
