Oceans of Hope Foundation, Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing adaptive ocean access for individuals with limited mobility. Established in 2014 by Chris Sharpe and Danny Paltjon in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, the foundation focuses on empowering paraplegics and quadriplegics to experience the thrill of wading in the ocean and riding waves through specialized equipment such as custom surf/body boards and specialized wheelchairs. This initiative is inspired by a shared vision between Chris Sharpe, who experienced an impactful moment while noticing disabled individuals being assisted into the ocean during his time in Hawaii, and Danny Paltjon, following a life-altering spinal cord injury suffered in 2003.
