The Internet of Things (IoT) is about connecting devices (things) over the internet, allowing them to talk to us and each other. The most popular example given when trying to explain the IoT is the fridge that is connected to the web and can tell you when you’re milk is out of date. The IoT isn’t exactly a new concept. In 1990 an internet connected toaster was developed, but the concept is becoming more popular and the technology more widespread (for example in smart meters and Amazon’s recently released Echo).
