The company is driven to innovate and committed to bring new approaches to improve patient care and quality of life. 2009 – Neocis Inc. founded Neocis Inc. was founded in Miami, Florida in 2009 by Alon Mozes, PhD, and Juan Salcedo. They had a common background in robotic surgery from their prior experience with Mako Surgical, where they were two of the first principal engineers to develop the revolutionary RIO system for robotic guided orthopedics. In 2012, Neocis secured its first round of funding with lead investor Fred Moll, who founded several successful robotic surgery companies including Intuitive Surgical, which created the da Vinci Surgical System. They hired their first employee, Director of Software David Cole, and curated a team to create a system ready for clinical use. They have since brought key Silicon Valley investors on board, including Mithril Capital Management. Neocis completed a successful clinical study for Yomi Robot-Assisted Dental Surgery in 2016 leading to market clearance from the FDA at the end of 2016. Yomi is the first and only robot-assisted dental surgery system to be commercially available in the United States and is in clinical use with leading dental surgeons. Neocis is partnering with key Pioneer surgeons across the United States to establish robot-assisted dental surgery as the new standard of care for dental implants. Dr. Mozes has been working in computer graphics and image-guided applications in start-up companies for nearly 20 years. As a principal engineer and one of the first 20 employees at MAKO Surgical Corp., he helped develop the software for their ground-breaking Rio system for orthopedic robotic surgery. Prior to MAKO Surgical Corp., he developed Emmy award-winning technology with Sportvision, Inc. in the area of real-time sports broadcast graphics. Dr. Mozes received his Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Miami and his B.S. and M.Eng. degrees in Computer Science and Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Mr. De Castro has nearly 20 years of experience in manufacturing across several industries including medical devices, power distribution, and telecommunications. His past medical experience has focused on robotics, cardiovascular devices, and orthopedics, with companies such as Siemens and Mako Surgical. He specializes in developing early stage processes for new products with an emphasis on lean manufacturing and Total Quality Management (TQM). Mr. De Castro holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Florida International University. Robin Grandl, PhD is a proven medtech marketing executive with a history of leading clinically-focused high impact product launches and marketing programs for novel medical devices. Dr. Grandl brings her experience from the dental implant market with Zimmer Dental and the surgical robotics market from TransEnterix to our organization. Her experience extends to innovative medtech organizations such as NuVasive, ResMed, and TranS1/Baxano. Dr. Grandl 's strong technical background, with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, an M.S. in Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and a doctoral degree from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL), support the technical needs of the company's marketing endeavors. Jeff Blake is an experienced finance and strategy executive with a history of successfully building and guiding early stage healthcare companies. Most recently, Blake was the first commercial-stage focused hire for VisionScope Technologies, where he served a VP of Finance. Previously, Blake served as Director for Strategic Planning for Avisena, which was acquired by Medusind, and at Hand Innovations, LLC, which was acquired by DePuy, a Johnson & Johnson Company. Blake earned his BS in Biology at the University of Virginia, a Master of Finance from Tulane University, and his MBA from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Sloan School of Business. Chuck Atkins joins Neocis with more than 25 years of sales and sales management experience in the medical and dental fields. Atkins has great depth of experience in startup medical device companies and emerging technologies and played a critical role in initiating the commercial success of several startup companies including Visualization Technology Inc, WaveLight, Mako Surgical and Surgical Theater. Dr. Atkins received his Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry (DMD) from The University of Alabama School of Dentistry and his Bachelor of Science in Pre-Med from Auburn University Montgomery. Dr. Atkins sits on the President’s Council at the non-profit, Gladstone Institutes in San Francisco, and enjoys volunteering on medical and dental mission trips to Central America.
