NAMI Florida, Inc., which was established on September 23, 1987, serves as the state affiliate of NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness), recognized for being America's largest grassroots mental health organization by and for those affected by mental illness. Based in Tallahassee, Leon County, NAMI Florida is dedicated to advocating for individuals and families dealing with mental health challenges throughout Florida. The organization collaborates with 27 local affiliates to mobilize volunteers across the state, aiming to raise awareness through educational initiatives and supportive programs. NAMI Florida has taken a leading role in efforts like the Stigma Free Florida campaign. This initiative partners with HR Florida State Council to revamp workplace attitudes towards mental health. Together, they provide business leaders with essential tools and insights to create inclusive environments that support mental well-being among employees. Additionally, NAMI Florida organizes various impactful events such as its Annual Meeting & Conference, addressing crucial topics like early psychosis detection, PTSD in veterans, and ways companies can respond effectively to employee mental health needs. In 2017, the conference took place at the B Resort in Lake Buena Vista over September 22-23. It featured a diverse program with presentations aimed at business leaders and included training sessions like Mental Health First Aid.
