Montessori at Roseborough began as Montessori N.E.S.T. (Nurturing Environment Specialized for Toddlers) in Leesburg, FL in 1983.
The intent was to inform, support and empower parents through classes in: birth preparation, infant massage and bonding, mothers and their babies, classes in parenting, along with a women’s support group. Until 1994, the center provided an infant-young children’s community for children one to three years of age. The importance of honoring the need to be nurtured in order for one to have the energy to nurture others, especially family members, was emphasized.
Dr. Montessori’s philosophy was based on the principle that all children naturally develop in stages, called planes of development.
with scientifically designed materials. Because children develop individually, they work at their own pace. Classrooms operate on three-year cycles, allowing children of mixed ages to form close relationships and engage in collaborative learning. Each cycle provides the children with the consistency of the same teacher within the same setting. The role of the trained adult is to act as a link between the children and their environment.
