Starting in the 1970’s I used the experience I gained from being raised in the hospitality industry to branch out on my own. I successfully developed and marketed many establishments. I was also the owner and operator of several of these lucrative businesses. My reputation in this area allowed me to serve as a consultant and negotiator to other companies interested in new ventures and acquisitions. In addition to the financial rewards serving as a consultant gave me an opportunity to travel throughout the US and Canada. I feel fortunate that I was able to develop personal and business relationships that have exposed me to the culture and customs of people across the globe. During this time period my education in the field of real estate and development began when I served on a variety of boards and committees including but not limited to HUD, UDEG and SBA.  Other topics in the video include NAR’s Commitment to Excellence initiative, which will roll out later this year, to give NAR members a chance to voluntarily assess how well they perform on key aspects of their business, including technology, the Code of Ethics, and the forms and contracts they use. The video also gives an update on home sales—they’re off to a slow start this year, mainly because of inventory shortages in many markets, especially among lower-cost starter homes—and what’s happening in commercial real estate. Briefly, transaction volume on small cap properties is doing okay but volume on large cap properties is slowing down.
