Honoring Those We Serve: Miami Jewish Health Systems History Our story began in the late 1930s, when an ailing Adam Reiss, a German-Lutheran who had moved from the Midwest to retire in Coral Gables, called his friend, Ida Cohen, to his bedside to tell her he wanted to donate $10,000 to a home for the aged in our community. Ida took up his mission, and under her leadership ‘The Miami Jewish Home for the Aged’ was incorporated on July 25, 1940, with Ida Cohen serving as the first President. Today we serve more than 10,000 people annually from Miami-Dade and Broward counties. We changed our name to Miami Jewish Health Systems to better reflect the breadth, comprehensiveness and focus of our efforts. As an internationally renowned, innovative leader in healthcare, we serve patients and residents from 5 years in age to 105. We promote longer, healthier, more enriched lives for patients and residents of all ages, cultures and faiths. Jeffrey P. Freimark is Miami Jewish Health’s President and Chief Executive Officer. He is also an elected Councilman in the Village of Bal Harbour. Mr. Freimark was named one of the Top 10 CEO’s in Miami-Dade county by South Florida Business Journal. Prior to joining Miami Jewish Health, he was Executive Vice President, Chief Financial and Information Officer for Intelstat, one of the largest operators of commercial satellites worldwide. This followed his being Executive Vice President, Chief Financial and Information Officer for Beverly Enterprises – one of the largest national operators of long term care facilities, rehabilitation, hospice and other healthcare segments. In addition, he has held the position of Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for OfficeMax. Mr. Freimark holds CPA licenses in Florida and New Jersey and is licensed to practice law in New Jersey. He is a graduate of New York Law School (JD), New York University Stern School of Business (MBA) and the University of Brian J. Kiedrowski, M.D., leads the Miami Jewish Health Systems team of physicians, works closely with the nursing staff, risk management and compliance departments and builds relationships with healthcare professionals in the community. Dr. Kiedrowski is board certified in Geriatric Medicine, Internal Medicine and Hospice/Palliative Care. Prior to joining the organization, he was Vice President and Medical Director at Catholic Hospice. He also worked at Moorings Park Continuing Care Retirement Community, the Wellness Clinic and Skilled Nursing Unit at Glenview Residences and had his own private practice in Naples. Cliff Bauer is Miami Jewish Health Systems Vice President – Government Relations. He brings with him more than 25 years of experience in senior positions in hospital and healthcare organizations located in Missouri, Texas, Arkansas, Illinois, Ohio, Tennessee and Florida. In the past, he’s worked with Hospital Corporation of America (HCA), Tenet and Leon Medical Center Health Plans. In South Florida, he was Chief Executive Officer and President for Hialeah Hospital & Chief Executive Officer for North Ridge Medical Center and for Kindred Hospital. Cliff graduated from Saint Louis University with an MHA in Hospital and Healthcare Administration and received a BA in Biology from the University of Missouri, Columbia. Marc Agronin, M.D. is a board-certified adult and geriatric psychiatrist currently serving as Vice President, Behavioral Health and Clinical Research at Miami Jewish Health Systems. Dr. Agronin’s clinical experience includes adults and elderly within the entire range of psychiatric illnesses. He is a graduate of Harvard University with a degree in psychology and philosophy, and received his medical degree from the Yale School of Medicine. Dr. Agronin trained in psychiatry at Harvard Medical School and later completed a fellowship in geriatric psychiatry at the VA Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN. He has written numerous books and articles, including “Alzheimer’s Disease and Other Dementias, A Practical Guide, 3 Churé Gladwell is responsible for overseeing all gifts, campaigns and donations to the Miami Jewish Health Systems Foundation, in addition to maintaining a major gift prospect pool of several hundred donors. Churé brings more than 25 years of experience in fundraising and philanthropy to the Foundation, including managing one of the largest public-private capital campaigns in the history of Miami-Dade County. Prior to joining Miami Jewish Health Systems, Churé worked for the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts as Senior Director of Advancement. She has also been a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) since 1994 and served on AFP Miami’s Board of Directors since 2012. Elisa R. Hernandez, SPHR oversees all aspects of Human Resources, including recruitment of talent, staff development, training, compensation and benefits administration as well as HR Information Systems. She brings over 20 years of experience in the field of human resources. Prior to joining Miami Jewish Health Systems, Elisa was the Vice-President of H.R. and Payroll at Sunrise Sport & Entertainment. She received her BS in Professional Management from Nova Southeastern University and has been a Certified Senior Professional in Human Resources since 2002.
