The Miami Heat Wheels wheelchair basketball team was started by Bill Allen in 1991. Since 1998, Miami-Dade County Parks Disability Services and the Leisure Access Foundation have provided a way for these athletes to achieve their highest potential. Mission To provide opportunities to participate, learn, and develop the skills to play wheelchair basketball to persons with physical disabilities of the lower extremities. Enrich the lives of the participants and the community through the participation and growth of wheelchair basketball throughout Miami-Dade County, the State of Florida, and the United States. Future plans include additional wheelchair basketball programs in South Florida for the Junior, Collegiate, Women’s and Championship levels.
