Metro Orlando Judo Kai, Inc. (MOJ) is a Florida non-profit corporation headquartered in Orlando, dedicated to the promotion and practice of Kodokan Judo. Officially chartered with USA Judo and the United States Judo Federation (USJF), MOJ offers a range of classes tailored to various interests including recreational, competitive, and self-defense Judo for both Kids/Juniors and Adults. The organization also provides specialized sessions on Women’s Self-Defense and techniques applicable in other martial arts such as Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ). MOJ warmly welcomes visiting Judoka from around the world to participate in training and foster international friendship. Founded by Professor Jigoro Kano in Japan in 1882, Judo evolved from ancient Japanese Ju Jutsu. Kano modernized its principles, emphasizing 'maximum efficient use of physical and mental energy' (Seiryoku Zenyo) and 'mutual benefit and welfare' (Jita Kyoei). Today, Judo includes Nage Waza (throwing techniques), Katame Waza (holding/ submission techniques), and Atemi Waza (striking techniques). Its adoption as an organized sport began with its inclusion in the 1964 Olympics, marking it the first martial art to achieve this distinction. The International Judo Federation (IJF) now oversees Judo globally, representing over 195 countries.
