Merritt Construction Services’ charitable giving focuses on providing for the immediate needs – food, clothing, shelter and some special educational services – for disadvantaged women and children in the area. We seek out services and programs that make a direct impact on these groups, rather than capital campaigns and operational grants. To apply for a grant, organizations must be a 501(c)3 and have demonstrated a proven measurement of successfully helping the Baltimore metropolitan or Northern Virginia communities. As a professional organization, the most important service the AIA provides is unifying the efforts of individuals and firms to improve our profession and the built environment. We do this at local, state and national levels through proactive legislation and public awareness campaigns. The AIA also provides timely and relevant continuing education to give the AIA Architect a competitive advantage in the market place. Finally, the AIA offers individuals the opportunity to network with other architects, elected officials, community leaders and allied professionals. Dunbar Security Solutions is one of two divisions of the security company Dunbar Armored. Within the past decade, security threats have evolved to include not only physical threats, but also threats on digital assets and information. Dunbar Security Solutions focuses on defending against these threats through cybersecurity analysis, implementation of security systems and other protective services. Dunbar Security Solutions had several requirements when it came to acquiring their new space. They needed a space that could house all their employees and serve as a showcase to clients, as well as a space that was able to protect all their internal information. Due to the nature of their business, as a security firm, Dunbar’s core space needed to be impermeable to outside threats in order to protect the data of their clients. They also wanted the ability to grow within their space as the need for defense against digital threats will increase. How did Merritt helped them? SAAB Defense and Security is responsible for the support of SAAB aircraft throughout North and South America. They provide the needed equipment to maintain and repair these aircraft, as well as craft engineering solutions to keep the aircraft performing at their best. George Caracost, the VP and General Manager of SAAB Defense and Security in the Americas, and his team were looking for a large flex facility. They needed warehouse space to hold their product inventory as well as a traditional office space for their employees, all under one roof. As a defense contractor, SAAB also needed several secure zones within the space. Finally, SAAB wanted the space to be in a great location where their employees had access to an abundance of amenities, including food and shopping areas. How did Merritt help them? Merritt showed George and his team at SAAB a vacant lot of land and asked them to envision a new building with all the features they were seeking in a new headquarters for their company. Although they were originally looking to retrofit an existing building, Merritt’s willingness and ability to fulfill all of their building requirements ultimately convinced Caracost, who was intrigued by the idea of creating a space that was created specifically for their company. How did Merritt help them? Bakery Express interviewed several organizations to help them with their vision of a 200,000-square-foot, multi-use building. However, in the end, they turned to Merritt to partner with for constructing and managing the new building. Bakery Express had already been a customer of Merritt’s – they rented space to store unused equipment—so Steve knew that Merritt was dependable and professional, yet fun.
