MENDING FENCES, LLC, MORRISTON

Mending Fences Our mission is to help each of our clients learn to live a happy and fulfilling life free from the bonds of addiction. We strive to provide the most effective treatment available in a compassionate and supportive manner. On Saturday, May 19, 2007, Mending Fences, a racehorse owned by Robert and Linnette Miller, was racing the day of the Preakness at Pimlico Park. While in first place, Mending Fences rounded a bad turn and broke his leg. He had to be euthanized on the track. Heartbroken, the Miller family had Mending Fences cremated. His ashes will be laid to rest at a dedication ceremony at the new facility in his honor. Mr. Miller had been deeply impacted by the 2009 movie Crazy Heart. The theme of which centered on a struggling, down on his luck, alcoholic country-music star played by Jeff Bridges whose life was benefited by going to a rehabilitation facility. The story inspired Rob to create a healing place that was dedicated to the service of healing wounded souls, horses and humans alike. In addition, the facility would be named for their beloved horse Mending Fences. Our programs have been thoughtfully designed to provide all the tools you need to understand your addiction from both a biological and psychological perspective. We believe that understanding yourself and your relationship to others on a deeper level can help you develop a strong sense of self and appreciation of your strengths. Mission Of Mending Fences The mission of Mending Fences is to help each of our guests learn to live a happy and fulfilling life free from the bonds of addiction and co-occurring disorders. We believe that understanding yourself and your relationship to others on a deeper level can help you develop a strong sense of self and appreciation of your strengths. Our Philosophy At Mending Fences, we respect the autonomy of our clients. We recognize that no one can move towards a true process of recovery unless they have some desire to do so. We also recognize that the pull towards addiction is extremely powerful, so while the mind wants to strive towards a healthier life of abstinence, the body is craving “what it wants, when it wants it.” The program at Mending Fences has been carefully and thoughtfully designed to provide all the tools you need to understand your addiction from both a biological and psychological perspective. We recognize addiction as a brain disease, but believe that understanding yourself and your relationship to others on a deeper level can help you develop a strong sense of self and appreciation of your strengths. Our comprehensive program will provide the structure and sense of community one needs to build the emotional skill set necessary to live a healthier and more productive life. Your equine therapy partner as well as the rest of our talented human team of professionals are dedicated to helping you through the difficult and courageous process of recovery. We believe that treatment also needs to address what happens when you leave our doors. Discharge planning will include our help in continuing the vocational training and/or career enhancement programs you began at Mending Fences. Our goal is to ensure that your chosen field is a good fit and will support rather than hinder your work towards recovery. Your stay with us also includes a year of phone monitoring to make sure you are following your treatment plan as we know that the pull off the path to sobriety can be daunting. Our programs have been thoughtfully designed to provide all the tools you need to understand your addiction from both a biological and psychological perspective. We believe that understanding yourself and your relationship to others on a deeper level can help you develop a strong sense of self and appreciation of your strengths. Gator is a 17-year-old quarter horse gelding who unfortunately suffers from severe fly allergies. Our equine staff have done wonders to find solutions to help him with these allergies. Gator has lived most of live as a family horse in the Kississimee area. Merlin is 15-year-old Missouri Fox trotter gelding that was donated to Mending Fences last September. He moved here from an elevation of 6,000 feet in the Colorado Rockies where he was used as a technical trail riding horse. He would often go on 4 to 5 day long trail rides. Pistol is the newest addition to the Mending Fences family. He is a 4-year-old Quarter horse gelding. He has limited time under saddle which will progress as he also doubles as a therapy horse. Our programs have been thoughtfully designed to provide all the tools you need to understand your addiction from both a biological and psychological perspective. We believe that understanding yourself and your relationship to others on a deeper level can help you develop a strong sense of self and appreciation of your strengths. A residential treatment program is only as good as the staff who develop and provide the treatment We at Mending Fences are dedicated to hiring the highest qualified staff for each position on our campus. That said, no individual staff member can provide residential treatment alone. We work as a team, each respecting the importance of each of its members. Credentials and experience are very important but so are compassion and a dedication to the clients we serve.
