MEDICAL IMAGING AND THERAPEUTICS, LLC, Lady Lake

Welcome to Medical Imaging and Therapeutics. MIT features board-certified doctors, a friendly, helpful staff, and a complete line of medical imaging and minimally-invasive outpatient therapies. Our sub-specialty fellowship-trained radiologists and staff know that the world of medical imaging and therapies can be a little confusing, even intimidating, but we're here to make the process as easy and pleasant as possible. Our doctors and staff are down-to-earth, and will take the time to explain every test, every process, every option, so you'll know that you're among trusted, experienced, compassionate professionals who are devoted to your physical and emotional well-being. Dedicated to providing quality care, patient safety, advocacy, research, public awareness, and accountability, MIT’s physicians belong to these organizations that help to establish rigorous guidelines and accreditations to offer the highest standards in patient care. It is our mission to place a high priority on meeting these rigorous standards so that we may pass our expertise on to you! At Medical Imaging and Therapeutics, we strive to provide the highest-quality images while keeping patient radiation exposure as low as possible. We regard everyone as if they are family and friends, and care and safety is of utmost importance. MIT will randomly and retrospectively monitor CT studies on a quarterly basis to ensure that the CT dose index (the amount of radiation administered during a study) remains within the accepted guideline of the American College of Radiology. We enjoy working with our referring clinicians to choose the correct imaging modality for their patients. If there is another study that does not use ionizing radiation while providing equal or better diagnostic information, we actively encourage the alternative exam. Each of our radiologists are happy to talk with our referring clinicians about what would be the best test for their patients. We are always available to review or discuss cases, so please feel free to contact us. Finally, we at Medical Imaging and Therapeutics have made the pledge with the American College of Radiology to Image Wisely, and we are all responsible for the amount of medical radiation our patients receive. We pledge to continue to use the newest technology and imaging techniques to ensure that the patients in our community are imaged as safely as possible. We believe that every patient should be treated with the same genuine caring and attention to detail that we would provide members of our own families. If you have questions about MIT, our services, or if you would like to make an appointment, we invite you to From our doctors and nurses to our technicians and assistants, each MIT member is committed to making you feel safe, comfortable and fully informed about every aspect of your care. My decision to develop a multi-modality imaging center in the tri-county area is influenced largely by my passion to provide top quality medical imaging and interventional care to a community which I have called home for 20 years. As a resident of Lake County, and the son of a long-term Villages resident, I am acutely aware of the needs of the senior community, and the demand for a boutique-style, state-of-the-art radiology and vascular center, where patients can actually consult and develop a personal relationship with their radiologist physician, who will help formulate an individualized treatment plan. Having worked as an interventional radiologist in the tri-county area for 12 years, and served on numerous hospital committees, including the board of directors of both Leesburg and The Villages hospitals, I have established enduring relationships with many local business leaders, CFHA administrators, and hundreds of local physicians. In addition, during the last 5 years, I have performed onsite diagnostic and interventional radiology at nine hospitals in central and southwest Florida, as well as provided tele-radiology support to several additional hospitals throughout Florida, Kentucky, Ohio and Pennsylvania. First-hand exposure to a multitude of healthcare systems has allowed me to incorporate a variety of the most desirable attributes of each, into a practice of my own. Through my travels I have personally come to know many of the region’s top care specialists with whom I have developed an extensive professional network; an invaluable resource to my patients and referring physicians. I am confident that my proven track record of providing outstanding diagnostic and interventional radiology to the Central Florida region, as well as my intimate familiarity with the local medical climate, affords me the unique opportunity to provide an exceptional level of personalized service in a warm and inviting setting. Our constellation of customer service oriented staff, leading-edge technology, and unwavering focus on the patient, allows MIT to consistently deliver the ‘highest definition’ care. Medical Imaging and Therapeutics' resident physician, Dr. Mark Jacobson, often spends his time writing  I am a Vascular and Interventional Radiologist. First I am a Radiologist, which is a medical doctor who is specially trained to interpret MRI, CT , X-Ray and Ultrasound imaging so your doctor will know how to best provide treatment for you. I am also surgically trained to perform procedures inside the body using the guidance of those imaging machines to see inside you, so that you are not cut open and you do not have to endure lengthy healing times from large wounds and stitches, hence the term “Interventional”.  I use very fine needles, catheters and wires to repair damage and sometimes even place devices inside your body to help you heal. I can provide therapeutic treatments in bones and vessels, as well as organs. Although Interventional Radiology, or IR, began to emerge and transition itself from a diagnostic radiology specialty to a therapeutic one over 30 years ago, the concept is still quite new to doctors and patients. This is  because it has only recently taken a leap outside hospitals, where IRs originally focused their practice. In the 1950’s, IRs invented angiography, or procedures introducing catheters into the vascular system to repair damaged arteries. Prior to angiography, surgeons performed “cut-open” surgeries, which were high-risk with often poor outcomes. Angiography became so well established in hospitals (being performed only by Interventional Radiologists) that over the next few decades IRs continued to invent hundreds of additional procedures, rapidly proving that performing noninvasive procedures is safer and provides better outcomes than traditional surgery.  Some of the specialties which ridiculed IR initially are now adopting and performing some of these procedures themselves.
