Paul Atwell has 25 years of experience in the telecommunications industry with the last 15 years focused on video transport. In 1994, he worked for Delphi Internet in Harvard Square, Cambridge, MA at a time when public awareness of the World Wide Web was beginning to emerge. He helped to deploy the first graphical-based browser to a test market of 300,000 users prior to the emergence and acceptance of the Web as used today. Paul served as the Director of Video Networking for ION Media Networks (formerly PAX-TV) from 1996 to 2009. He deployed broadcast and contribution quality video over traditional ATM- and SONET- based networks as well as point-to-point fiber distribution for real-time network television station programming.
In 1998 Paul deployed the industry’s first network television use of content distributed by FTP over a private ATM connection. He began design and testing of Video-over-IP based connection in 2000 at a time where most skeptics believed that “broadcast-quality video would never work over Ethernet networks”. In 2001 Paul delivered full-time television network programming to a cable company over an IP connection for the first time, something the cable companies did not want published because the idea might “catch on”. From 2007 to 2009 Paul served on the Board of Directors of the Video Services Forum, a three-sided industry group that recommends and promotes the standards and technologies that are used for the distribution of video across telecommunication networks.
Paul now focuses on providing solutions to clients who have content that requires transport between locations. By listening closely to the requirements of the application Paul recommends complete solutions specific to the content as well as to the budget. Paul offers complete project management services to include carrier selection, contract negotiation, provisioning, and circuit deployment. Hardware designs require consideration of what is already in use and evaluation of equipment specific to the content and to the application. Paul provides recommendation of hardware, equipment sales, configuration, documentation and training through to the commissioning and turn over of the completed application.
The overall focus of the products and services that Paul Atwell provides is enabling the requirements of the customer by listening closely to what the customer desires to achieve and to implement that vision in a way that is inexpensive to establish and operate, provides a solution that is simple to explain and use, and meets the immediate needs of the client while allowing for expansion and future growth.
