Under the leadership of our in-house Strategic Sustainability Committee, we seek to design in environmental integrity at every opportunity, discovering cost-effective, sustainable solutions for virtually all projects, whether or not certification is the goal. The firm has 28 LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Accredited Professionals and is actively involved in the US Green Building Council’s programs. We also employ two Green Globes Certified Professionals. We were the first architectural firm in South Carolina to incorporate geothermal heating and cooling in public school districts. Our sustainable design achievements include registered and certified projects of all sizes and classifications. At McMillan Pazdan Smith, we constantly strive to provide the highest standards of quality and value to our clients. One such commitment is the proactive use of technology to improve the total project delivery from start to finish. Our firm has led the design industry in the use of Building Information Modeling software to improve the design process, including more than 50 projects within our portfolio. Though many architects and engineers are exploring the use of BIM technology, few have embraced and understand, through experience, the benefits of this method of project delivery to the future of capital project expenditures and building operations. McMillan Pazdan Smith can effectively use this technology to the benefit of our clients, including improved coordination of various engineering disciplines, enhanced communication among stakeholders and significant improvement in planning to improve building efficiencies and cost savings that will affect both initial and operational expenditures. Providing seamless coordination of services from project conception to completion, our process of interior planning and design is well integrated into our architectural design practice. While interior design services are typically offered as a component of full service planning, they can also be provided to a client directly when architectural services are not required. One of the defining characteristics of McMillan Pazdan Smith is the emphasis placed on our Construction Administration process. Our Construction Administration professionals have over 50 years of expertise. Providing consistent review and oversight, client advocacy and a team-oriented approach, they are trained to identify and resolve issues before they affect both budget and schedule, while constantly monitoring construction quality. Not all constructors have the same attention to detail, sense of urgency or dedication to quality that we believe is important to a successful project. At McMillan Pazdan Smith, we don’t promise a perfect project, however, we believe diligent oversight, regular meetings to address issues and high expectations will provide the best result for our client. Our process begins during the design phase to ensure the most cost effective construction materials are implemented. Construction documents are then reviewed for quality control, providing thorough documentation to constructors and less potential for change orders or delays. The Construction Administrator manages the construction phase and spends time on site, providing extra oversight and working for your best interest.
