ake a breath or even mutter a sound. I was taken by ambulance to the emergency room. I was unable to walk or move anything from the waist down. Where I felt pain the most was in my groin and pelvis so the hospital took x-rays of the pelvis. I was told there was no fracture or anything wrong as far as they could see, there was no reason for me not to be able to walk. They called my parents in to help me get dressed and sent me home. I was then taken to a medical doctor. His exam consisted of running his fingers down my spine to tell me he couldn't find anything and he thought I was faking my injury to get out of work. I then went to a chiropractor who changed my life forever. He told me there had to be a reason I was in so much pain and something had to have been missed. He decided to retake x-rays and went higher up to include all of the lumbar spine (low back). There it was! I had broken my back and the L1 vertebra had been wedged into the spinal cord. The chiropractor sent me to an orthopedic surgeon who then referred me to a neurosurgeon because of the way the vertebra was wedged into the spinal cord. The neurosurgeon told me he thought surgery would be too risky and referred me to a second neurosurgeon. Again, I was told the surgery would be too risky and there was nothing they could do for me and that I would probably never walk again. I took this information back to my chiropractor. I was pretty shook up that I was told I would probably never walk again. The chiropractor looked me straight in the eye and asked: "Do you want to walk again?" I told him the specialists pretty much told me that was not an option. He said he couldn't promise anything but he would never give up on me as long as I never gave up on myself. Within about three months of chiropractic care, I was out of the wheelchair, and in another six months was off the crutches. I want back to a follow appointment with the neurosurgeon. He was shocked that I was walking. I was surprised that instead of being excited about it, he went on to tell me that I would have to accept the fact that I would probably live the rest of my life in pain and would most likely never lift over 25 pounds. Again, my chiropractor only gave me encouragement and although I did have many years of intense back pain, I am pretty much free from back pain today and have no restrictions on how much weight I can lift. I can never thank my chiropractor enough for helping me to realize my true health potential and for never giving up on me. He still calls me about once a month to this day to see how I am doing. Chiropractic is such an awesome profession that helps restore the body back to health, without the use of any drugs or surgery. His passion and mission is to help as many people as possible to reach their maximum potential in all ares of their lives. After suffering injuries in a car accident at the age of 18, I went to see a chiropractor for the very first time. Not knowing what to expect or that there were different philosophies regarding chiropractic care, I relied on the help of my parent’s chiropractor. He took x-rays, did ultrasound and adjustments and in a short time told me I was done with care when the pain went away. Approximately a year and a half later, I began experiencing problems with my ovaries. I was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Disease (PCOD) and struggled for 13 years enduring the pain of the cysts, and underwent a total of 24 surgeries leaving my ovaries scarred (not to mention ¾ of a healthy one being removed in surgery by mistake) only to face future of multiple miscarriages and eventually infertility. All of this resulted in my having to accept the fact I had to give up my lifelong dream of having my own children. When Dan and I began dating he told me about a chiropractic philosophy I had never heard of before. One in which the spine was adjusted to remove interference from the nervous system so the body could express itself the way God intended. That this innate intelligence was responsible for healing and our overall expression of health. Being a nurse I was intrigued with this concept of health, and it appealed to me more than the allopathic method of medication and surgery. We had x-rays taken of my back and when he reviewed them with me, he showed me where I was subluxated at L3-L5. He explained this region of the spine correlated with the ovaries and could indeed be what was contributing to my problems. He went on to explain how that interference caused poor communication between the ovaries and the nervous system and interrupted the body’s ability to function properly. I believed so strongly in what chiropractic did for me that I embraced the holistic side of healthcare and left bedside nursing to join Dan in the chiropractic clinic. I am the Clinic Director and a Holistic Nurse Consultant and have shared my chiropractic story with doctors, chiropractic assistants, patients and others in the hopes that it could reach the people desperately needing an answer to their healthcare challenges., and empower providers to know the gift of healing God has blessed them with. Andrea graduated from California State University, Fresno with a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing, and holds current nursing licenses in Oregon and California.
