The opportunity to educate the general public on macular degeneration's symptoms, prognosis, and solutions has been inspiring. I have learned many tips from other panel member experts regarding nutrition, medical treatments and have heard personal experiences of how some patients have learned to successfully cope. Many of the attendees I spoke with at these meetings were inspired with the knowledge they received and several stated that they wished they had heard this information earlier. I would encourage anyone with any connection to macular degeneration take advantage of the resources available through this grass roots organization." Macular Degeneration Association I have a passion for prevention. It is my mission to hopefully make a difference in my community to educate people about how they can prevent or lessen the effects of this devastating eye disease. Thankfully, there is a lot of excellent research going on for prevention, early detection and treatment. It is my pleasure to bring this information to the community. It is always very well-received and so appreciated. The Macular Degeneration Association is integral in helping me with this mission. There is a lot of time and effort that goes into the events, and I could not do it on my own. My hope is that more doctors in my area will join efforts with me, because the more people we reach and educate, the bigger the impact on AMD. Macular Degeneration Association MDA is a superb non-profit organization whose goal revolves around education. Its mission is to strive to provide clinical update and educate to patients and their families with regards to macular degeneration. As Sir Francis Bacon said, ultimately "knowledge is power!" Macular Degeneration Association As a doctor who has spent the last eight years of my life helping patients with macular degeneration, I know how important it is for someone to understand the disease and how we can help. The emotions that surround vision loss can be very strong and it is extremely important to understand that help is available. I have had the opportunity to work with the Macular Degeneration several times in the last few years as a presenter at some of their Awareness Events. The message put forth at those events is consistent and I believe incredibly important: there is hope. Anyone who has macular degeneration should consider attending an event when they are in their area. Any doctor who chooses to participate with an event, will find the organization to be very professional and well organized. Macular Degeneration Association MDA provides real time lectures "Macular Degeneration Association program of live real time lectures provides a wonderful opportunity to learn more about all aspects of common retinal and macular conditions." "And it gives patients and their families a chance to interact with the speakers during Q & A sessions after formal presentations." Macular Degeneration Association The Macular Degeneration Association (MDA) has truly shown that knowledge is power. They are a tremendous organization, providing important and relevant information to the public. I have had the honor of speaking at several of their meetings, which are both informative and interactive. These events give patients and their families the opportunity to listen to detailed lectures then ask questions to physicians and scientists. Patients who are currently receiving treatment have the chance to discuss their cases, and potential patients learn the importance of seeing their eye care professional. The MDA organizes engagements all over the country, spreading awareness and saving sight. They have been nothing short of a gift for the patients of the retinal community. Macular degeneration can be a frightening, confusing and potentially confining disease. I find that education is key. Another great benefit of meetings is that people get to meet other people in the same situation and share stories and ideas." Macular Degeneration Association I have had the honor of presenting for the MDA over the past three years. The organization brings a unique approach to patient education in that it sponsors public seminars that directly engage the patient and multiple health care providers to give insight and education regarding vision saving disease management. Face to face meetings in a comfortable collaborative setting are invaluable to patients. MDA truly empowers patients to partner in their care and promotes vision saving action.
