The response to M/I’s designs, quality, and integrity prompts more expansion. We establish an operation in the Virginia and Maryland suburbs surrounding Washington D.C. By 1993, M/I becomes a public company and is listed on the NYSE. The following year, we hit a major milestone: 10,000 homes closed. In 2003, Founder Irving Schottenstein passes the baton to a new generation when his son Robert Schottenstein is named CEO. In 2007, the company expands into Chicago. In both 2008 and 2009, J.D. Power & Associates recognizes M/I Homes for the “Highest Customer Satisfaction with Homebuilders in Columbus.”  And in 2008, Builder Magazine names CEO Robert Schottenstein, “Builder of the Year” in recognition of his decisive leadership through the Great Recession. M/I continued to grow and excel, expanding into the Texas markets of Houston, San Antonio, Dallas/Fort Worth and Austin, followed by the addition of Sarasota, Florida and Minneapolis, Minnesota. In 2010, our Tampa and Washington divisions were both recognized by J.D. Power & Associates for the “Highest Customer Satisfaction with Homebuilders, ” and Columbus CEO Magazine awarded us their “Best of Business” Award for an unprecedented 8th Year.
