In 1946 a locksmith for the US Army, left his native Connecticut to move to Florida in search of new opportunities and milder weather. A few years prior, his trade helped him survive World War II. Milton Dorn had learned the profession at a local shop in Bridgeport, CT named "Karpelow and Co.” The countless hours spent working after school in the locksmith shop helped him gain the skills that the army desperately needed. It was also the reason why he was on a special assignment the day the invasion of Normandy, thus saving his life. After serving his tour of duty, Milton and his beautiful wife Betty moved to South Florida where he opened a locksmith shop of his own. Very few sources of locks and keys existed at the time and the distributors that were around hardly ever took into consideration the needs of locksmiths. Milton began searching and obtaining difficult-to-get items, and soon other locksmiths where buying from him. Finally in 1954 he closed the service-end of his business to go strictly wholesale and thus Locks Co. was born. We have reached 60 years in the business proudly serving our growing family that is no limited to locksmiths but includes hardware stores, integrators, contractors, decorators, healthcare facilities, government, universities and countless other businesses around the nation and the world.
