Our Philosophy are gentle, child-centered and age-appropriate. We introduce skills only when the child is open, relaxed, ready and receptive. We never force, rush or push children to learn. We opt for tear-free learning—no traumatizing, no forced back float, no forced or aggressive submersions. We are guiding a learning process, not forcing compliance or submission. The skill is never more important than the child. are both parents in tune with their child and on board with our gentle, child-centered approach. We are looking to embrace parents who want to spend time with their child, love them for who they are, and allow them to blossom on their own schedule. If your adult expectations (both Mom and Dad) exceed your child’s readiness or your teacher’s expert evaluation or guidance (ie: you are in a big hurry)—this is not the swim school for you. come with time, patience and practice…they come in progressive levels, each requiring foundation skills that help build the next level. We help develop happy, safe, confident swimmers who love the water and love learning. Rob has spent his life in and around water. He learned to swim at age 3; swam competitively as a youngster; throughout high school as an All-American Swimmer in Cedar Rapids, Iowa; throughout college as a varsity scholar athlete at Florida State University; and as an adult, as a Florida Gold Coast Masters record holder. He was former Assistant Men’s Swim Coach at FSU and coached national YMCA record holding relays. He pursued graduate studies in Elementary Education at FSU. Rob continues to swim for fitness. He has been an aquatic professional for over 40 years and owned Lifestyle Swim School for 35 years. He holds the following certifications: ” from Mount Holyoke College with a degree in English and a strong emphasis in education and educational philosophy and methods. Her thematic approach to lesson planning is always apparent in games, songs, creative play, toys and theme days at the swim school. She is a former Girl Scout leader and had the distinction of being named the “Outstanding Leader” for her city. She received the “Outstanding Teacher Award” from the National Swim School Association (now USSSA). She served as Secretary for Margaux’s Miracle Foundation and coordinated the teen members performing acts of kindness and charity in the Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade county areas. The Lifestyle Swim School is a special family friendly community where you join in the water with your child, along other like-minded, patient and nurturing parents in a group class environment. Our emphasis is on teaching directly at the babies/child’s unique pace, observing readiness and comfort and offering skills in a smooth, natural progression. Baby swimming should be a joyful, playful, holistic experience. We believe learning to swim should happen without tears, trauma or force. The journey is as important as the destination. The Lifestyle Swim School teaches babies and trains teachers from all over the world. The Lifestyle Swim School’s Serenity Swim Network Licensing and Certification program is approved as a “Nationally Recognized Aquatic Training Program” by the State of Florida. Aquatic learning environments for our youngest students—ages 3 months through 4 years old—are specially designed with the same emphasis as the most recognized and successful land-based, early-childhood programs—Montessori and Waldorf, for example. The McKays themselves are recognized and respected as world standard-bearers for gentle, playful, child-centered and effective learn-to-swim methods. Learning at these critical ages is not just about acquiring skills, but about development of the whole child–body, mind, and spirit.
