I know it can be difficult to choose a therapist with so many to pick from and it’s important to choose one that’s the right fit for you. So to help you decide if I might be what you’re looking for, here’s a bit about my background and my approach.
In addition to private practice, I’ve provided mental health and substance abuse counseling in a variety of different settings. I’ve worked with all types of clients, ranging in age from 12 to 80. Previously, I worked in community mental health clinics, residential treatment centers, and schools before finally opening my private practice here in 2014.
Over time, I decided that private practice is truly where my passion lies and where I could make the most difference. I get to spend quality time planning out treatment for my clients. I get to know my clients as a person rather than a “number.” I get to spend much of my time outside of sessions in what I hope will be a lifelong process of learning and honing my skills with the latest research and interventions. But more than anything, working in private practice affords me the ability to focus my efforts on helping people with the issues I know best
In my practice, I specialize in helping adults dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, and insomnia. However, because these problems tend to take a toll on
My work in the the mental health profession began because I truly believe that the work we do on ourselves is the greatest contribution we have to give to this world. I find a lot of personal meaning in helping and watching people start making these changes, start seeing themselves and their world differently, and start living the life they were always capable of (but never knew it).
I am humbled to to be a part of the process as I help my clients to free themselves, take back control, and regain hope and confidence.
. Current and former patients will often transcribe reviews of their experiences with their counselor in order to provide beneficial critiques for individuals who are also seeking care. If you have a family doctor, it is also possible to get a referral that suits your specific needs.
– Perhaps the style of counseling that first comes to mind for those familiar with Hollywood depictions of counseling sessions is the psychodynamic approach. Finding its roots in the 1800s, the Psychodynamic Approach was popularized by Sigmund Freud, and focused on uncovering the unconscious as a method of correcting mental health issues. Though Freud has mostly been discredited by the modern medical community, the Psychodynamic Approach is credited with starting the “talking cure” the still common technique of conducting therapy through an open, often guided discussion between counselor and client to help reach the root of mental issues.
, the Behavior Approach attempts to correct mental issues by seeing problems being learned rather than rooted in the unconscious mind. It attempts to correct problems by offering positive reinforcement for correct behaviors. In the case of phobias, the Behavioral Approach often uses a process of desensitization to help those trying to overcome their fears, introducing the subject of their phobias in a relaxed, controlled setting to help give the client the ability to face the phobia in the real world.
takes the idea of a talking cure from the Psychodynamic Approach, but rather than focusing on unconscious motivations, the counselor attempts to help improve the mental health of their patient through working with them to recognize illogical or unhealthy thinking or behaviors while equipping them with tools to stop those thoughts and behaviors. Many modern counselors tend to favor this approach.

Self-Help
From time to time, we all experience the deeper, darker, or more puzzling parts of life and they can leave us feeling stressed, isolated, and confused as we try to pick up the pieces and get back on with the business of living. All too often, though, we are simply not equipped with the tools we need to start clearing away the mess and rebuilding.
That’s where therapy can help. Therapy is no longer a lifelong process that takes years and years only to find out the problem was something you have no ability to fix. Modern therapy, much like modern medicine, has come a long way. Treatment is often short-term, lasting only a few months, and can provide noticeable and lasting relief from common ailments such as anxiety, depression, and relationship problems. Therapy is now, more than ever, about giving you the tools you need to sort through the mental and emotional wreckage of whatever life has handed you so that you can get on with your life.
My mission as a therapist is to teach my clients how to become their own therapists–so that you may take the tools with you and rebuild whenever and wherever you need to.
If you are experiencing problems in your life caused by anxiety, depression, a past experience, or a difficult relationship, counseling can help. Contact us today to begin taking steps to rebuild and get your life back on track. On your own, it can be difficult to know where or how to start making the changes you need to make. Therapy can provide you with a better understanding of what you’re experiencing. The primary goal of counseling is to help you create a step-by step plan to make the changes you need to make to get your life moving back in a better direction.
