LEO FUNDAY, INC., PORT RICHEY

The families were treated to a free barbecue lunch from Hungry Harry's Barbecue. When not enjoying the lunch, the kids were exploring this vast playground. From bounce houses to reptile displays, to planting flowers, to a big Easter Egg hunt, no one was bored. A DJ kept things moving, including hula hoop competitions. The kids and adults appreciated the K-9 demonstration by the Pasco Sheriff's K-9 unit. The families were treated to ice cream, sno cones and popcorn thanks to our business partners. Many of our business sponsors also awarded door prizes at the conclusion of the event, including barbecue grills, a water softener system, hair styling, and many other prizes. When all was said and done, we raised over $22,500.00 above the costs of the event, which was donated to the Pasco County Fallen Law Enforcement Officer Memorial and Benefit Foundation, Inc. That organization is committed to constructing a permanent memorial in Pasco County to our fallen law enforcement officers, and to provide a revenue stream that will aid the families of fallen officers in the days and weeks following a tragedy. In four years over $53,000 has been contributed to the Fallen LEO Memorial Foundation. In 2013, Arndrea and Craig Laporte wanted to find a way to acknowledge Pasco County's law enforcement officers and their families in a positive and fun way. They considered many possibilities, none of which seemed feasible at the time. The result of this desire to recognize the officers, employees and their families who give so much to ensure a safe community was a free day of fun for the families, supported by local business partners. The Pasco County Law Enforcement Family Fun Day was created and first implemented in 2014. Craig's law firm, spearheaded a drive to build a core of sponsors who were like-minded about sending thanks to our law enforcement community. The initial goal was simply to generate a sufficient revenue stream to pay for the day. As Craig and his supporters began to approach business, it became apparent that the financial support would exceed expectations. Since the first LEO Funday, the concept has grown, and every year more and more business partners join with Craig, Arndrea and Proly, Laporte & Mulligan, PA to make the day a resounding success. In 2017 it became apparent that this event will go on for years into the future. In order to make the program bigger and better, LEO Funday, Inc. was created as a charitable corporation, with IRS 501 (c)3 status. This allows the corporation to seek both business partners and charitable contributions to continue what is fast becoming a tradition in the Pasco Law Enforcement Officer Family circle. LEO Funday, Inc. is now run by a Board of Directors, whose sole focus is to continue to bring smiles to the families of our law enforcement community, and raise funds for worthwhile law enforcement charitable causes.
