LANE 4 SWIM SCHOOL, INC., ORLANDO

Lane 4 Swim School Lane 4 Swim School is dedicated to addressing your child as a whole. We create comfortable, relaxed swimmers, but more importantly well -adjusted, happy human beings. We foster children’s love of the water, teaching them skills and safety through gentle games and play. method while expanding my skills on how to teach infants and babies how to swim in the most natural, gentle and positive way. The program they have developed is amazing and we are excited about bringing their child-centered swimming lesson format to Central Florida. Gentle Philosophy “The benefits of “baby-friendly”, infant/toddler swimming are unique, uplifting and contribute to the positive development of the whole child. Through the soothing medium of water, we are able to tap into the child’s potential, both within and without.” the stimulating effect of child-paced infant/toddler swimming lessons has the potential to increase intelligence, concentration, alertness, and perceptual abilities. Improvement in social, emotional and physical development has also been published. Of course, the manifestation of such inspired cognitive, personal and motor development takes time, patience and repetition. I have personally observed this phenomena and have confirmed this with other veteran instructors, especially in children who started lessons prior to 12 months old, but it’s never too late to receive these unique and subtle benefits of infant-toddler swimming……..” ( “The journey is …as important as the destination. Learning is a process, not a product. It takes place at the child’s pace, not when the teacher says it, not when the parent wants it, but when the child is capable, relaxed and ready. Create a positive learning environment, enjoy each session for its own sake. Harmony with… the water. Smooth swimming, not thrashing, takes practice, patience and a great deal of time. At each level, we are setting a foundation. Each age group has new and more complex skills compatible with the developmental abilities of that group. It is best to introduce skills only when they can be acquired with ease and confidence. Every child gets there in the end, if you put the time in at the beginning……..( The purpose of the following skill profile is to provide you with a broad idea of the Like most two-year-olds, Reid is fearless and like most mothers of two-year-olds, I am fearful. My husband and I often joke that Reid missed the memo that he is only two because he swims all over without regard for anything and he just goes, thinking he is ready for the Olympics! This is certainly a change from a few months ago. You may recall that when we first learned in January that we were going to be buying our new home with a pool, my first phone call was to you. I expressed my concerns to you about my children not knowing how to swim and I even said that if my two-year-old ever falls in the pool, I want him to be able to survive. You assured me that you could help us putting my mind and heart at ease almost immediately. You have always been Rylee and Reid’s biggest cheerleader and now we are your biggest cheerleaders. You have a gift in your ability to work with children and teach them to not only swim but to love the water as well. Thanks to you sharing your gift with my family, we still have our giffrom God. Thank you for all you have done and will continue to do. You will always hold a very special place in our hearts. Rowdy has joined the Lane 4 Swim School team because of his belief that every child needs to learn how to swim. He has dedicated his life to sharing his love of the water with others and we are so excited to have him part of our management team! Lane 4 Swim School was established in 2005 by Jillian Martin. Jillian has been involved in the swimming world since 1991 and has been an instructor for the past 15 years. Locally, Jillian competed for Team Orlando and Trinity Aquatic Team (now Trinity Prep Aquatics). While attending school at Bishop Moore Catholic High School she was a two-time Florida state champion in the breaststroke events. While attending the University of Maryland, College Park, she swam competitively for the varsity swim team from 1999-2003. Jillian was extremely successful during her college years. She earned, among many other achievements, NCAA Division Martin All-American Honors in the 100 and 200 yard Breaststroke, was an Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) champion in the 200 yard breaststroke and 400 yard medley relay and earned All-ACC honors in nine events. She was fortunate to undertake community service projects with the University of Maryland Varsity Swim Team to teach swimming to under privileged children in College Park, Maryland. These projects helped Jillian realize how much she enjoyed sharing her love of water with children. During the last two years of her college career, Jillian was the head coach of the University of Maryland Terrapin Masters Swim Team. This team includes swimmers from ages 18-100 of various skill levels. Most of these team members were there for social reason and to stay in shape but others included those who competed at the United States Masters swimming and the United States Triathlon Association national levels. After college, Jillian continued competitive swimming with the Ft. Lauderdale Swim Team (currently named Ft. Lauderdale Aquatics) under the direction of Duffy Dillon and Jack Nelson. Jillian considers it a great privilege and honor to work with and learn from them both. Her competitive swimming career ended on a high note at the 2004 USA Olympic Swimming Trials in Long Beach California We are excited to welcome two new instructors to our family. Aubrey is a senior at Colonial High School and for the past two years she has taught swim lessons for the YMCA. Before becoming a swim instructor and life guard she was a successful competitive swimmer on the state level. She excited to teach at Lane 4 Swim School because not only is it a new experience, but she will be able to have a closer relationship with the children and families that she will be working with. She is pictured here with Olympic Gold Medalist Nathan Adrian. We are thrilled to have her part of our family this year.
