Our corporate headquarters in Wilmington, Massachusetts houses a sophisticated product development, life testing, and research complex. This 15,000-square-foot R&D facility will make tomorrow’s technology possible, and is the heart of our operation. Koch Membrane Systems, Inc. was established in 1963 as a privately held company known as Abcor, Inc. Its charter was to develop and commercialize processes and equipment based on separation and purification technologies, which originated with scientists from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In 1970, the company added ultrafiltration membranes and systems to its portfolio of separation technologies, which proved to be so successful that all other separation technologies were abandoned. Since then, the company has concentrated entirely on membrane separation and has become a world leader in this field. The growth of our original company was gradual but well focused. Koch Engineering Company, recognizing the commercial potential of these technologies at the outset, not only provided the seed capital to establish Abcor, but obtained minority ownership position. In 1977, Koch Engineering Company bought out the remaining shares, with Abcor becoming a wholly owned subsidiary. In 1981, the company became Koch Membrane Systems, Inc. KMS is headquartered in Wilmington, Massachusetts, with offices throughout the world. With manufacturing plants in Wilmington, KMS has flourished thanks to our ongoing development of superior filtration products, as well as through acquisitions of leading companies in the field. Among the acquisitions were Romicon, Inc. (1991), Fluid Systems Corporation (1998), and Puron AG (2004). Romicon's outstanding reputation was based on hollow fiber UF membranes and systems. Fluid Systems Corporation, now fully integrated into KMS, was one of the pioneers of commercial reverse osmosis and nanofiltration membrane products, which lead the industry for desalting brackish water and seawater for drinking purposes. This advanced desalination technology is also used for many industrial applications. Puron developed a submerged membrane bioreactor technology that shows great promise for both industrial and municipal wastewater treatment. We manufacture UF, MF, RO, and NF membranes and systems in a variety of configurations including hollow fiber, spiral, and tubular shapes. We also sell equipment in a wide variety of global markets that include municipal drinking water, industrial wastewater, juice, dairy, wine, pulp and paper, automotive, pharmaceutical and biotech, sweeteners, and many, many more. Products: PURON MP, HF and MBR membranes, PURON PULSION MBR membranes, FEG PLUS tubes, spiral membranes for Caustic and PVA recovery Products: PURON MP, MBR and HF membranes; NF membranes; and ABCOR FEG PLUS membranes Koch Membrane Systems (KMS) was founded in the early 1960's by chemical engineering professors from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to commercialize technology developed in their laboratories. Since its inception, KMS has focused on the enormous worldwide need for purified water in a broad variety of applications. As a result, the company has grown into a world leader in the development, manufacture and sale of membrane-based water purification equipment. In order to meet the needs of this flourishing market, which is currently growing at a rate of 15 to 25 percent per year, KMS has focused intensely on research and development and has achieved major technological breakthroughs in recent years. In fact, we have recently been named the Water Technology Company of the Year for 2010 by the International Desalination Association, the leading global organization dedicated to desalination of salt water. This award was given to KMS for its significant technological contributions to improving the performance of its water purification products. The worldwide market for superior water treatment products is enormous and offers the potential for a company with such products to grow to an extraordinary size.
