Our Mission Our mission in KLA Elementary School is to provide our children with not only a quality educational experience, but also a meaningful life experience that nurtures and respects the whole child immersed in a safe and inspiring environment where authentic learning can truly take place. Learning is not limited to the classroom, children are exposed to areas outside of the school and they use those surroundings to make connections to their classroom projects. We are not bound to a single theory. Our curriculum is based on our research on the multiple intelligences that children possess, and the importance of offering children a holistic environment that provokes active learning, collaborative work, and problem-solving skills that children will apply to their daily lives. Mrs. Candelaria Ortega is the co-founder of KLA Schools. She has been the Director of the first school since the company opened in 2008. Mrs. Ortega became the Pedagogical Director of the KLA School Franchise in 2010 to support the corporate owned and franchise centers. As the Pedagogical Director of KLA Schools, Mrs. Ortega supervises the development and implementation of the philosophy and curriculum of KLA Schools. She is also responsible for the continuous improvement of the curriculum and professional development initiatives. Mrs. Ortega and her team provide the necessary tools and materials to ensure that the students are getting a high-quality educational program. Mrs. Ortega is the company spokesperson on education and child-related topics. Director of Admissions A Miami native, Ms. Ortega has served as our Admissions Director since June 2013. Prior to that, she was a teacher for a KLA Schools Affiliate from August 2011 to June 2013. Ms. Ortega earned a Bachelor’s of Psychology from University of Miami in 2010 and has held these positions in our corporate office in Miami, Florida. Angelivette Rodriguez has worked for KLA Schools Affiliates since August 2012. She started her career as a Preschool and Elementary teacher in 2006. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Preschool and Elementary Education, and a Master’s in Early Childhood Education. She began working as a teacher at KLA Schools of Brickell in the Class of the 4’s and was the Kindergarten teacher for four consecutive years before moving up as a teacher and founder of the KLA Elementary first grade class. She is also the Coordinator of the Elementary Program. At KLA Elementary, our teachers and staff are passionate, knowledgeable, caring individuals, dedicated to providing quality education. Our progressive approach takes the whole child into account, aligning their interests with fields of knowledge that they will encounter in the elementary grade levels. We ensure that our faculty participates regularly in ongoing professional development experiences, and are professionally trained in elementary education and child development. Our staff is unique, with qualifications stemming throughout many different fields. Among us are teachers with backgrounds and credentials in mental health and school counseling, speech and language pathology, health and fitness administration, studio arts, musical theater, gymnastics and of course, K-12 education, amongst many other fields. The individuality of each of our teachers creates a richness in our team as a whole. Our teachers provide an inimitable educational experience, tailored to the learning process of each child in their care. Collaboration between teachers, parents and the children is an integral part of the educational experience at KLA Elementary School. Our goal is not simply to build a strong, warm and nurturing connection with each child, but to extend that connection to our community of parents. By working in a collaborative group setting, children learn critical life skills such as compromise, reasoning, respect for others’ opinions and enhancement of their sense of community. Through these partnerships, children benefit from experiencing many of the same principles at home that they do in school and thrive with this consistency. Teachers also offer frequent support to our families and our communities through transparency and by being a source of information about educating a whole child and the various aspects of development. We would like to welcome you to your digital tour of KLA Elementary School. From the moment you walk into any of our locations, you will know that you are in a KLA School. Each one of our schools has a modern feel and design unlike any other. Features such as wood floors and furniture, large picture windows for all classrooms and offices, large corridors and classroom sizes, soft tone colors, and play soft furniture brought in from Italy are some of the visual components that makes KLA stand out from all the rest. KLA Elementary School is safe and secure by design. We work diligently to maintain the cleanliness of our facility as well as the safety of our furnishings and overall health of our children and their environment. Parents log their children in at the reception area, where no outsiders are allowed. All doors leading outside of the KLA Elementary School grounds are kept locked and only able to be opened through sophisticated technology. Our schools include an outdoor play area designed with age appropriate materials, protective fences, and well-maintained grounds to insure the children’s safety. Staff members qualified to respond to life-threatening emergencies are always in attendance. Trained in pediatric first aid and CPR, staff members are always available to respond to a variety of emergency medical situations. In addition to our regularly instituted health and safety plan, emergency care products are also put in place for both minor and major incidents. As part of our philosophy and educational approach, we believe it is essential to make visible that fact that each child knows and understands that we are all different and can co-exist peacefully. We have different ways of thinking, a fact we embrace. In fulfilling this vision, KLA Elementary School has formed relationships with charitable organizations within each of the communities it exists.
