It causes the clear lens in the eye to become cloudy which causes a problem with vision making it blurry. Normally, light travels through the lens and gives the clear imagine to the retina. For persons that suffer from cataracts their lens are cloudy so the image transferred to the retina is vague and difficult to interpret, therefore the patient would be said to have blurred vision. Cataracts usually affect persons who are above the age of 60 and it can affect one or both eyes. This disease is not contagious which means it can not be passed from a persons eye to another persons eye by contact. This is the most common cause of blindness in the world, it is not painful and it does not cause the persons eye to itch. After the surgery, one will need to make a few frequent visits to the doctor office within some days and within the first few weeks. In this period, the patient is issued eye drops which help in protecting the eye against infections and inflammation. Within some days, most patients notice improvements with their vision and they can resume their normal routine. The doctor will continue to monitor the eye for any notable complications. With a stabilized condition, the doctor will issue fitting glasses if necessary. The decision to proceed with this surgery is based primarily on the difficulty of one performing their duties. Surgical procedures are the best for removing cataracts with implantation of artificial lens. There are numerous intraocular lens types that can help restore vision. Cataract surgery is safe and an effective way to restore vision without any serious complications.
