Mission Katelynn’s Colors began simply as a way for me to sell my custom artwork. My love of this particular style of art is thanks to my mother in law, Roxana. The style was inspired by the work of Romero Britto. Roxana was very intrigued by his art and came up with a method of creating a similar style out of black foam board, scrapbook paper, and hodge podge. When she taught me how to create it, I quickly fell in love with it. At first the designs were mostly copy work of others’ ideas, then I began to create my own designs. I have so many ideas and plans in my mind and I’m so excited for where this artwork is headed! At the same time I was setting up this business however, I was also trying to figure out how I wanted to use my music education. I have taught piano lessons for many years. It is something I will probably never completely abandon, but I knew I wanted to do something a little different with my musical education. As I was pondering and praying about my art business and desire to do something more with my musical background, I was inspired with the idea to change Katelynn’s Colors into a non-profit organization. I feel like Heavenly Father planted an idea in my heart and mind that I was so excited about I couldn’t get rid of it. That idea was that I could expand Katelynn’s Colors to include group music classes, and that, eventually, when the funds reached enough I could begin subsidizing private art and music lessons for low-income families who cannot afford to put their children in private lessons. I decided that the sell of the art prints would go towards the work of the non-profit and that the proceeds from the group music classes would go towards the same.
