In my senior year at FIT I was hired as an intern at Dennis Wedlick Architect, (now Barlis Wedlick) in a Residential Architecture and design firm in Tribeca, NY. After I graduated I was offered a full time position. I loved working at DWA. The senior architects took me under their wing and coached me, yet still respected my point of view on Finish selections furnishings. I couldn’t have asked for a better introduction to the design world.
I returned to South Florida in 2006. The economy was booming at the time and I wanted to expand my experience in Commercial design. I worked for ADD Inc. and Arquitectonica before the market took an extreme downturn and nearly the entire company was laid off. I was newly married and without a job, so I decided to start my own business. My first project was a large, new construction project on the Las Olas Isles. Then a full renovation and addition of a house in Key Largo, followed by another in South Miami, and it all seemed to flow, business became steady. I also consulted with the architecture firm Touzet Studio in Miami and aided in their Interiors projects, which brought me to a new level of understanding architectural detailing and luxury furnishings.
It wasn’t until 2015, and two kids later that my husband I decided that we wanted a different landscape to raise our two boys in. We visited Raleigh, NC in the summer of 2015 and moved that fall. The beauty of living in Raleigh is that we have a lovely home in a quaint neighborhood, exactly what we had been wanting for our family, yet it’s a quick flight to Florida. I have maintained clientele in Florida and keep an office there. I’m looking forward to the development of business in the Carolina’s, and East coast, as projects in Virginia and New York City have expanded our market.
What I see is they have offered me the opportunity to create their home. Their most personal space. This is where they are going to have multiple family gatherings. This is where they are going to make their kids lunches, the Thanksgiving turkey, and the design that I provide is going to be an integral part of their lives every day, that’s a privilege.
