KATC went on the air in the fall of 1962 as an affiliate of the American Broadcasting Company (ABC), and celebrated its fiftieth anniversary in 2012.
Each week, more than 377,000 people tune into KATC-TV3 for local and national news, talk/variety and game shows, soap operas, information and entertainment, sports, movies, children's, and public affairs programming.
KATC-TV-3 is carried on cable systems throughout Southwest Louisiana to viewers in Acadia, Evangeline, Iberia, Jefferson Davis, Lafayette, St. Landry, St. Martin and Vermilion parishes.
KATC-TV3's live local newscasts, "Acadiana's Newschannel" at 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. have won numerous awards, including multiple Associated Press awards for the Best Local Newscast in the Acadiana market.

With the "Safe Families" initiative, KATC-TV3 uses the airwaves to provide important information on subjects like health, crime, consumer protection, and weather safety. KATC-TV joins with local law enforcement agencies, hospitals and other organizations to host annual Safe Families events that heighten public awareness about safety and promote positive interaction with the people we serve. The station has established advisory councils throughout Acadiana parishes, to provide important feedback and oversight.
