KAMAU ENTERTAINMENT INC., PORT CHARLOTTE

Gregory Whyte (Kamau) was first exposed to songs and the beauty of the singing voice at an early age. Growing up in the Caribbean island of Antigua, he would listen to the beautiful voice of his mother as she sang the songs of the day, while preparing the family's food, cleaning the house and doing the laundry and other chores. He still holds the belief that his mother was blessed with a voice comparable to many of the great singers familiar to most. Quite a number of local singers and musicians helped to influence Kamau's outlook on entertaining and, more specifically, professional singing. Rupert Blaze, Barry Harvey, Teddy Jackson, Andy Lawrence, Jackie J, Pat Edwards (PO), Muddy Gonzales and T.N.T Philip are important ones. Also, a duo that had the greatest impact on Kamau was Lenny and Levee, one of the most popular and successful singing groups of the day. Unknown to many, when Lenny was looking for a singer to form the duo, Kamau was one of the first persons he approached. Regrettably, Kamau's schedule prevented the union. Although a number of bands helped to influence Kamau's direction as a professional singer, the one that was most significant is the Targets; a local band with international appeal. The band consisted of some of the greatest musicians to be found on the island of Antigua. Kamau's father worked at the Anchorage Hotel; a leading hotel on the island. One night, while visiting his father at work, Kamau was introduced to the band, which played regularly at the hotel. He was invited to sing a song; which he did. The performance was electrifying. Although he never became a member of the band, he would sing with the band whenever he visited the hotel. This he did for several years. GETTING TO KNOW THE BUSINESS Kamau moved to America in 1973 and continued to pursue his dream of becoming a professional singer. While working in Manhattan (New York), Kamau met Doo Wop legend, Joe Rivers. They worked for the same company and became good friends. When Joe found out that Kamau was a singer, he quickly introduced him to Doo Wop. They sang (harmonized) every chance they got. This went on for about a year. Joe once said the following of Kamau... "I've listened to, and worked with, enough singers to know that this kid is going to experience greatness. His voice is uncommon. Just incredible." Kamau's music includes  doo wop, reggae, calypso, jazz and swing, country, Motown, disco, dancehall and classic oldies. Rest assured that he will do all in  his power to make your wedding, company event, birthday party, anniversary celebration, Christmas party or New Year's Eve celebration a success.
