JUPITER TAX HELP INC., JUPITER

After working in a corporate tax firm and having my desk overloaded with work for many fortune 500 companies, I began my own independent firm: Jupiter Tax Prep, Inc. Instead of drowning in the bureaucracy of larger multi national corporations where my skills, experience, knowledge and expertise made very little difference in the companies I was doing tax work, I began working with individuals and small businesses.  Because of their size, small businesses could implement changes quickly and measure results quickly.  We could change things and if it didn’t work we could change them again.  We all were able to see the results of our efforts during out lifetime. I started working independently under my own LLC then I used a dba (doing business as) until finally I incorporated and elected the S-corp status.  At the beginning I was unsure if I could compete with other larger businesses that offered clients my same service. But it was not the same service.  I was able to offer a full thorough methodical service.  Unlike larger companies I was in charge of my entire clients file.  Not only was I their main and only point of contact, but I was familiar with their entire file. I wasn’t just a cog in a wheel.  I wasn’t only working in sales tax so when a client asked about income tax I couldn’t answer it.  I could address all of their tax issues.  I was familiar with their entire business. I could see things that a client couldn’t and I can tell them “hey, this is an area of concern, and here is why.”  I didn’t have to wait for the salesman’s approval to discuss something with the client.  I could have a real business relationship, not hiding behind procedures.  I could and do offer a holistic approach.  I started by offering tax preparation services.  I found small businesses also need accounting work or just an accounting system set up for them, so I offered that service too.  Small private companies and independent contractors don’t need to get hung up on aspects that affect large complex businesses.  The sacred GAAP which just stands for Generally Accepted Accounting Principals.   If that sounds to you like “hey everyone else is doing it this way so we will too”, then yes you are right.   Public companies are required under SEC rules to prepare audited, GAAP compliant financial statements.  Private companies are not legally obligated to follow GAAP, but they may be required to by their lenders, venture capitalists, or other stakeholders.  GAAP could one day be important to the business that I work for but first they need to walk before they can run.   While some private small businesses and independent contractors could grow to become public and worry about things like GAAP.  Most of these businesses are worried about if they are paying the right taxes at the right amount.  No one wants to find out 5 years down the road that they owe over 100,000 in payroll taxes.  They also worry or don’t now yet to worry about how to increase revenue and keep expenses low all while paying the exact taxes they owe, no more or less.  This is where I come in offering tax expertise to independent contractors and small businesses like filing quarterly returns, annual tax filings, and answering questions like how the Affordable HealthCare Act will affect their business. Don't let the IRS shut down your business for Payroll Tax Issues. Resolving your Payroll tax issue with the State and or the IRS is essential to keeping your business open.  Payroll tax can also be assessed on the owner personally.  Even if your business is closed down you may have to pay the payroll tax out of your personal pocket.  Don't allow the IRS to control the conversation or dictate your business, hire a professional to resolve the payroll tax issue.
