Josef Seibel shoes have been a household name in Western Europe since the 70’s. The 90’s ushered in a new phase for Josef Seibel – allowing the expansion into major North American markets across the Atlantic. From a small village in Germany to production facilities in Europe, Asia, and the Americas, Josef Seibel is continuing our expansion.
Premium quality materials, best workmanship, perfect fitting and comfort have helped the Josef Sebiel brand become known as “The European Comfort Shoe”.
Josef Seibel shoe designs range from casual and trendy daily wear styles to more formal and classic varieties. With its broad array of designs and styles, customers can be assured of excellent workmanship without sacrificing their fashion sense.
In 1936, Hellmuth Lemm acquired the brand name of this newfound company. Today, the Romika brand is known internationally.
Hellmuth Lemm founded Romika, the shoe manufacturer in 1936 near Trier in Germany. The company began by producing sturdyy rubber boots, followed by house shoes and slippers. This move proved so successful that 545 employees were appointed within the first 6 months.
During gate early 1940’s bombing destroyed the factory, which now employed 1,000 people. Rebuilding a new factory started at the end of the war with just 50 workers. Initially they produced only sole units, bicycle inner tubes, and hot water bottles. Eventually the production of rubber boots resumed at which Romika was the first manufacturer to work with heated presses.
Enterprises such as Romika were integral to what has now been called the German Economic Boom of the 1950s. More and more products were launched into the market. The Romika factories were growing alongside the demand for fashionable shoes and by the end of the decade Romika employed 2,600 people.
This period included a much wider field of expansion. Romika developed new sports shoes for tennis, football, hiking, and climbing. This resulted in new factories opening in Reinsfeld, Bittburg, Augsburg, and Reus (Spain) – all practicing innovative production techniques. Final finishing, administration, and shipping were handled at the new building in Trier.
The nineties brought changes to Romika. The founder Hellmuth Lemm died and the family retired from the business. A new owner Rene C. Jaeggi took over the business.
During 2005 the Josef Seibel Group took over Romika and founded a new company, at which point the company was insolvent. Josef Seibel founded a new company – Romika Shoes Gmbh. This allowed 90 qualified staff to remain employed within the head office in Trier as well as 300 factory workers in the Czech Republic, and more importantly the continuation of the Romika footwear brand.
The Josef Seibel Group management lies under the leadership of Carl-August Seibel and Andreas Garnier who oversee the management in Trier.
We now ship to USA and Canada. This is the premier destination for Josef Seibel, Romika, and Gerry Weber shoes.
