Joeb Moore & Partners is an architecture and design firm known for its intellect in design, craftsmanship, inventive formal and spatial systems, and details. The practice specializes in precise and creative buildings, landscapes, and furnishings that sensitively respond to their environment and ecologies of place. We are interested in exploring the interface between the social and physical, between convention and invention. In the broadest sense, the office is committed to the ideal that architecture is a material and social art that cunningly engages with the visual, social and political history and culture of which it is an active part. The underlying thesis is that great architecture should deepen human experience, engage our prosaic rituals, while also elevating our awareness of a larger, changing world. In 2006, Mr. Moore joined the Yale School of Architecture as a Visiting Professor where he currently teaches the Housing Studio. The studio focuses on issues of dwelling and concludes with a student-built, community-based housing project the students build over the summer. In the Fall 2016 he taught the “Firm in Residence” Graduate studio at Roger Williams University. Mr. Moore’s most recent lectures include “Agents of Change – Rethinking the Past, Present & Future in Four Projects” at University of Texas, Austin, “Second Wave of Modernism–The Emergence of Biological Thinking” at MoMA and “The Modernist Legacy and its Discontents” at Clemson University. He is a member of the Committee of Planning & Urban Design of the AIA New York Chapter, and serves on several boards, including: the Advisory Board for the University of Nicosia, Cyprus – School of Architecture and Design; the Board of Directors for The Cultural Landscape Foundation in Washington, D.C., whose mission is to support historic landscapes and heritage; and the Board of Trustees for the Clemson Architectural Foundation.
