I write speculative fiction for three primary reasons. First, I want to introduce readers to the unusual worlds that fascinate me. Some of them bear a striking resemblance to what we see every day. Some are outlandish, some frighten me, while others can’t help but make me smile. All of these worlds share a common feature; they allow me to consider the ordinary and extraordinary in ways I never did before. This desire to provoke readers into new modes of thinking is the second reason I write. Finally, I write to create accessible stories. This doesn’t mean they’re dumbed-down; no, It means they can be read, understood, and enjoyed without forcing the reader to perform excessive work.
