On January 4, 1995, John Harris formed John Harris Construction, Inc. The initial vision of the company was to provide site excavation services to the growing cellular tower industry. Those services included site leveling, stone entrance roads, concrete equipment/building slabs and footers, underground conduit installation for power and telco, grounding installation, and tower foundations. The company also provided general excavation services including water and sewer installation, erosion control and general grading. The name of the company was changed to JDH Contracting, Inc. in June of 1997 to reflect the wide range of service offerings. Now, JDH Contracting continues its emphasis in the wireless industry adding tower erection and maintenance, and has widened its focus to include communication services such as fiber optic aerial/underground installation, splicing and design. The company also continues to expand its civil construction division including municipal and commercial site infrastructure services, soil erosion control, wetland remediation, sewer and water installation for production housing and recreation areas such as sports facilities, green ways and trail systems. Versatility is a key for any business and JDH helps clients with its ability to provide other services, ranging from emergency power, disaster restoration, facility maintenance, landscaping and snow removal, commercial fencing and concrete work on any scale. By stressing the company values to each employee and providing professional and timely service, JDH has been able to forge strong relationships with a growing family of clients including regional utility providers, national communication carriers, state and local municipalities, government entities and a variety of commercial operations. Today, John Harris continues as Chief Executive Officer and maintains a personal involvement with customers and crew leaders. Our company has invested heavily in management experience and in the company’s capacity to better serve its growing variety of customers by expanding its staff, equipment and business operations as well as opening a location in Kentucky. At the same time, JDH Contracting, Inc. remains committed to continuing to provide unparalleled service and value for each of our clients while always holding our own operations to the highest professional standards. JD Harris serves as Chief Executive Officer. His responsibilities include the oversight of all operations across the Plainfield, IN, and Mt. Sterling, KY offices and the five operating divisions. JD and his wife, Dee, founded JDH Contracting, Inc in 1995. Though JDH has grown exponentially since its founding, now with more than 200 employees, JD still invests personally in each and every employee, taking a personal interest in their professional and personal development. JD formed JDH to not only provide excavation services to the growing cellular tower industry, but also general excavation services including water and sewer installation, erosion control, and general grading. Realizing the need for a full-service construction provider, he quickly positioned the organization to provide a full range of tower erection, modification, and decommissioning services. He also led JDH’s entry into the fiber optic construction field, including a full range of splicing, mapping, engineering, and placement services. An entrepreneur at heart, JD again expanded the JDH portfolio in 2014 by adding vertical drilling to the already expansive menu of services. This has allowed JDH to partner with a growing number of electric power, civil, and commercial construction entities. JD’s vision has produced an extremely successful and well respected business operation. Jim Mehring serves as Chief of Staff. His responsibilities include the creation and implementation of new policies and procedures, executive consultation, business development, and executive level employee recruitment. Jim joined JDH in 2015. Previously, he worked as Vice President of Ohio and Kentucky Gas Operations for Duke Energy, where he had oversight of natural gas transmission and distribution operations, gas engineering, gas transportation, gas customer accounts and projects, and performance and compliance management. Jim’s 37-year career with PSI Energy, Cinergy, and Duke Energy includes several assignments in field work, safety and training, electric distribution control center coordination, and field management. Jim began his career as a lineman apprentice with PSI Energy in January 1977. He held numerous management positions in the field operations organization directing line construction and maintenance, substation construction and maintenance, electrical system operations, safety, engineering, and now natural gas operations. Scott Sontag serves as Chief Operating Officer. His responsibilities include oversight of all company construction activities. With a hands -on management style and an extreme attention to detail, Scott ensures that all projects are progressing according to schedule and within budget and corporate regulations. He joined JDH in 1999. Previously, Scott worked with a large regional grocery chain where, due to his attention to detail, he quickly rose through the ranks to become a specialist in audit and inventory control for the company’s retail stores and warehousing. This 10 year experience, primarily as an inventory control manager, created situations where details, controls, and problem solving were everyday occurrences. Scott was also responsible for implementing the roll out of a new, real-time inventory control system in the company warehouses.
