JAWAID INC., WESTON

Mazahir went with the Canadian company to Riyadh in 1979 to work and successfully completed many projects there until 1993. Zaheer Baig, one of the sharpest in our class, stood third in the final year results. He was very much focused on structural engineering after completing NED. He worked for a couple of years in Pakistan and then moved to Singapore around 1972. He received an approved immigration visa to the US but chose Singapore as his permanent home. He owns and operates a very successful marine structures design firm. Zaheer's picture is not included in the above group photo as he arrived 5 minutes too late for the occasion. Mohammad Asghar actively participated in NED's football and basketball teams. He was also the captain of the football team. We are in the process of getting more information about him. Iqbal Qureshi cane from Hyderabad and stayed at Sevekunj Hostel during the NED years. After completing BE, Iqbal Qureshi served in the army for 3 years. After that he started his own consulting and construction business. He is now a very successful builder and an entrepreneur living in Karachi. He has served at PEC and IEP in leadership roles. He has been very actively involved in social development and charitable work. His message and focus is to give back to the society and country. I came to USA in 1971 and did MSEE from UCLA. After graduation, I moved to San Francisco Bay Area and worked for two prominent technology companies(Fairchild and Intel) from 1973 to 2000. I held many positions there including engineering and general manager of a business unit. From 2000 to 2010, I worked at a local venture capital firm. In 2007, I cofounded a Pakistani cultural non-profit organization and currently its chairman. I am also chair of the investment committee for $400K NED endowment fund funding up to 100 scholarships each year. Have three sons and 2 grandchildren. I have very fond memories of NED life with so many friends, wood and metal workshop and sparse electronics lab. Prof. Anwar Chaudhry, Salahuddin, Mascarenas and others molded my education base and extremely valuable to my later professional life. It is hard to believe that we got such fine education with few hundred rupees annual tuition. Joined National Rejector Industries in Hot Springs Arkansas, this company designed and manufactured electronics for vending machines. Then moved on to Mid America Pipe Line Company in Tulsa Oklahoma, I was involved in the design and development of ultrasonic flow meters, interface detectors & solution monitors. which helped many of the 1970 NED alumnis to get connected. His writings on the current social and political issues are always very well-written and insightful. After completing his BE, Zahid Butt finished his MBA from IBA, Karachi. He had an opportunity to train in steel technology in Japan where he picked up basic Japanese. Subsequently, he worked in Pakistan and Saudia Arabia before coming to the US and worked in Florida for a Swiss company. He is now retired and living in Houston. We owe many thanks to Zahid Butt for helping us track our classmates and get the needed information for these pages. he provided us several other names and contacts which tremendously helped in filling in some of the gaps. At the beginning of this effort, we considered placing these pages on their own domain. We deliberately opted for a more practical route. The SEO (Search Engine Optimization) technology has become increasingly sophisticated. As of now, pages on a new domain get a low ranking. The domain where we are currently sited has been around for almost 2 decades, and this should shorten the time involved before the search engines start picking us up. Once these pages gain the needed ranking we can move them to a new domain without incurring any negative impact.
