Emil R. Jahna Jr. Emil Richard Jahna Jr., our Founder, was born to Emil Richard Sr. of Landskrom, Bohemia and Nola Edwina Hughes of Elizabethton, TN in 1924. Shortly after, Emil Richard Sr. started Ridge Stone & Tile Company and the family moved to Lake Wales, FL where we still operate out of today. Our founder, Emil Jr. grew up working at the family business where he learned about sand and concrete. In 1942 he left to join the 71st Seabees of the US Navy where he served for three years in their Pacific construction battalion. Upon returning, Emil Jr. decided to start his own company which eventually became ER Jahna Industries. A true business man, his word and a handshake was better than a contract, and he could always be found with one pant leg in and one pant leg out of his boots. He married Jeanne Allen Bardin in 1954 and the two had five children together. Emil Jr. passed away in 1996. His children and grandchildren have carried on his legacy and love of sand. Now on their fourth generation of Jahnas, the company remains family owned and stays true to the principles it was founded on. The Jahna Family moves to Lake Wales, FL to start Ridge Stone and Tile Company manufacturing concrete products. Emil R. Jr. begins his career in mining by working for the Lake Wales Independent Sand Company owned by his father, Emil Sr., supplying sand to local businesses for concrete. Emil R. Jr. uses money saved during his deployment to purchase Davenport Sand Company supplying sand to Central Florida. ER Jahna Industries is incorporated. Loughman Mine begins producing sand that helps build I-4 and Disney. ER Jahna expands their reserves through the addition of the Haines City Mine. ER Jahna purchases existing limestone operation, Cabbage Grove, in Taylor County. With the passing of Emil R. Jr., the company begins a new era under the leadership of CEO, Allen Keesler, and the second generation of ownership. Green Bay Mine begins production providing sand to Orlando and Tampa markets. The Jahna Foundation is established to continue giving back to local communities. ER Jahna expands outside of Florida to Liberty County, GA and production begins as Savannah Sand. Ortona Sand Company begins the Broward County beach restoration supplying 900,000 tons of sand in twelve weeks. American owned and independently operated, E.R. Jahna Employee 1961-2005 The Jahna family has been mining sand in some capacity since the early 1900’s but it was the vision and hard work of Emil Jahna Jr. that formed the company as we know it today. Working with his father in the concrete products and mining business as a child and young adult, he took that experience and went on to build a business of his own in the mid 1940’s. E.R. Jahna actively operates four fine aggregate mines to competitively supply Central and South Florida as well as our Savannah, GA Mine. We carefully evaluate and plan existing and new natural aggregated deposits that can be best suited to supply the areas that we serve for many years to come. Jahna Industries, Inc 202 East Stuart Avenue Lake Wales, Florida 33853 Since joining Jahna as President and CEO in 1997, Allen has successfully continued to nurture the company into being Florida’s leading independent sand supplier. Allen initially agreed to join Jahna for a two year period that has now evolved into a second career spanning two decades. Previous to Jahna, Allen spent 33 years with Florida Power Corporation (currently Duke Energy). He began with Florida Power in 1963 as an engineer and held various management positions. In 1982, he became president and CEO of Talquin Corporation, Florida Power’s former real estate subsidiary. Allen later moved into the role of President and CEO of Florida Power, the position he held from 1988 until 1996 when he retired. Allen attended the University of Alabama majoring in Engineering, and Rollins College where he received his degree in business. Sam joined Jahna as President / COO in 2015. He is responsible for managing all business units and operations of E.R. Jahna Industries. Before joining Jahna, Sam had a 20 year career with Philips Lighting with several roles working his way to a plant manager position. While at Philips, Sam served as Plant Manager at the Paris, Texas and Salina, Kansas facilities. Sam then moved on to the Campbell Soup Company for the next 14 years managing multiple operations for Campbell Soup and subsidiary Pepperidge Farms. While with Campbell and Pepperidge Farms, Sam served as Plant Manager at the Paris, Texas facility for 5 years, plant manager at the Maxton, North Carolina facility for 5 years before serving as Plant Manager of the Pepperidge Farms Lakeland, Florida until 2015. Sam earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, majoring in Accounting from West Virginia University (1978). He also completed an Executive Education Program at Indiana University Graduate School of Business (1993).
