This is my first major-version high-fidelity wireframe of an administration portal for Tech Data’s global cloud resellers. The portal allows resellers to manage their customers, cloud orders, and subscriptions through an intuitive, modern, and innovative platform. Tech Data’s soon-to-be released Private Label cloud platform, powered by StreamOne, needed an admin portal for resellers to manage their site and business. The Private Label platform allows resellers to harness the power of StreamOne’s cloud solution store to sell directly to their customers. The out-of-the-box admin area of the eCommerce engine used for Private Label was not powerful enough for resellers to manage their business. We are exploring this custom implementation as a possible solution. Potential users need to be involved with the team to provide feedback and insight into how they run their cloud business. Iterations will be needed when the project resumes. The concept was the result of research, business planning, and initial efforts to start a film streaming service geared toward film festivals. This service would have provided an API and embed codes to film festivals to implement an interactive streaming service on their site. I designed the site and branding, researched how to implement such a solution in AWS, and began working on API and site prototypes. Just go for it—don’t delay in exploring ideas and reaching out to unknown people for help I introduced a user-centered product development process to the StreamOne Global Cloud Marketplace team to enable swift and effective delivery of new features and enhancement of existing functionality. The StreamOne product team suffered from an internal-business-team-driven development process. We had no interaction with users nor data to steer our efforts. Our vendors were rapidly releasing new functionality for the cloud marketplace and our team needed to deliver those features to 18 countries. At the same time, the team was facing pressure from executives to release a new white label platform in time for Microsoft’s Worldwide Partner Conference a few months away. The team was unconfident about the viability of such a product because of a lack of trust caused by an outdated StreamOne platform. I worked closely with the product and internal business teams to put together a proposal. This comprehensive plan incorporates user experience research with execution. It proposed switching to a user-centric product mentality and a focus on the core platform until user satisfaction increased. The product team presented to senior leadership and made the strong argument to focus on the core platform. Executives recognized the need for more of a user focus in our process. The White Label platform initiative continued due to partner and competitive pressures. Though the plan was never fully executed due to the focus on White Label, we were permitted to enhance key portions of the StreamOne platform such as the checkout and some styling to increase user satisfaction. The greatest outcome of this proposal was more awareness of the importance of user experience and customer engagement during the product development process. With my leadership, the team began to incorporate more UX activities in future projects. Customers began to recognize these efforts.
