Whenever possible we choose local suppliers, source products made in the USA, use sustainable materials, and recycle, reduce and reuse in our own offices and homes. . We are always professional but we do enjoy a good belly laugh. We laugh at ourselves, a great joke, those horrible 80’s hairdos, silly cat videos, difficult situations, and even the crazy south Florida drivers. We infuse humor in our work and don’t take ourselves too seriously. . We are inspired by all the dynamic, incredible women out there that are over 40. Nothing is more beautiful than being confidently yourself, which seems to be a gift we receive as we get older. It’s never too late to try something new or reinvent yourself or your space. We believe in making time to relax and enjoy life . We are all busy. It’s not likely that we’ll become even more busy if we indulge in a facial every now and then. Everybody needs a little pampering. We believe self-care makes you more productive. That’s why our full-time employees have one hour every week when they are paid to go do something for themselves during our normal business hours. They can do whatever they like. Get a manicure, visit a museum, walk on the beach, take yoga class, or whatever invigorates them. A happy employee gives great customer service. . We are obsessed with shows like Project Runway, Design Star, and Vogue’s CFDA Fashion Awards. We love it when someone has a strong point of view or a really clear brand identity. It’s something we are striving for in our own designs and business. You’ll often find us pouring over the runway highlights from Fashion Week, looking at trends, and getting the vibe. And while comfort and high fashion don’t always mix (high heels – we’re talking to you!), you can be both comfortable and stylish in your wardrobe and home décor. An interior designer is generally a person who has a two or four year degree in interior design and focuses on the functionality of the space, technical aspects, and the structural elements. In some states, in order to use the designation “interior designer”, you must be licensed by the state or a professional board. As of this writing in Florida, there is a distinction between residential interior designers and commercial interior designers. Anyone who performs interior design for commercial properties, including restaurants, hospitals, and even multi-dwelling common areas like clubhouses, needs to be licensed. Interior designers who work on residential projects do not need a license to practice in Florida and anyone can use the designation. Working with a design professional is similar to working with any professional like architects, general contractors, attorneys, or financial advisors. Your designer will schedule a time to meet with you at your home or their place of business to discuss your project and learn about your goals and budgets. No design work happens on this first visit, it’s an opportunity to get to know each other. Be sure you have a budget in mind before you meet with the designer. Talking about money and budgets can be tough at the first meeting, you might not want to share that much information with someone you’ve just met! But, it’s critical for the designer to be able to understand the scope of the project and what types of expectations you have. We understand your trepidation and concern. You may worry that if you tell the designer you want to spend $20,000, the designer will spend the entire amount. But that is the point. The designer will give you the absolute best design they can for $20,000. If you really wanted to spend $15,000 but you’d splurge on an exceptional piece, then tell the designer that. Say, “I was thinking about spending about $15,000, so please target that amount. However if you find a really special piece that would be perfect for the room, show me that as an option for up to an additional $5,000.” Being up front and setting clear expectations is the best way to start any relationship.
