The old phrase “All boats rise with the tide” really applies to the mission of Instruments of Change. Learning to play a musical instrument improves academic performance on many levels. Children who perform better in school tend to earn more money later in life, tend to have more stable family environments, and tend to be more community minded than those who drop out of school. By teaching a child to play a musical instrument, you change their potential for success. You can make a difference in our ability to help. Each band program costs $15,000 per school year, but any amount can help. Consider this: If each person in America donates just $1 we would have enough funding to start more than 20,000 student band programs across the country! It’s strength in numbers that matters. If you have the ability to play a few notes on a trumpet, or three chords on a guitar, you can begin teaching a child to play.
